She tried to clamp down on her own nervousness but it stemmed from somewhere out of control. When Father sat next to her he leaned in, almost comforting in a way but she couldn't make herself meet his gaze. She turned her face away from him, eyes looking at the floor, submissive. This close, his presence was intoxicating. She didn't what, he asked. She could tell him. She could tell him anything... His voice was barely more than a whisper, but it caused a shiver to run down her spine. She wanted to tell him anything, everything, and she should, of course she should, because he was Father and she had to be his Good Daughter and that meant never having secrets, never telling lies, never going behind his back.
"Violet said she asked me to go on a shopping trip with her, and that I said I had to ask you first. She sounded so sure but I.. I don't..." She tried, she tried so hard to picture it in her mind. Violet asking her for help, inviting her shopping, saying something Violet-y like 'oh Greenie I need your help', and then Green herself replying that she had to ask Father, which of course she would have said but when? When did she last see Violet? When had she ever seen Violet when she wasn't visiting Father? Thinking about it was giving her a headache. "I don't remember."

There it was. That little bit of evidence that made his pride flinch. She didn't remember, that much was clear. Yet there was something inside of her that said: Violet is lying. Green knew something she wasn't saying. It was possible she didn't even know she had the thought. It was also possible she was being a bad daughter once again, and concealing it from him. ...But there was risk in that sentiment. He could lead her on, tease her towards the answers in the hopes that she would explode with the truth. If he did that, though, it could sever the control the implant had over her. That he had over her. He did not want to push the device to breaking. Not this soon after replacing it.
"I believe you," He finally told her, breaking a tense silence where he looked towards her eyes, and she refused to look at his. After the reassurance, he reached out a hand, cupping her cheek and turning her to him, making her look at him. His touch wasn't forceful, but it was commanding.
He smiled again once her eyes finally met his, the smile belonging to a father this time, a loving look, even, and repeated it: "I believe you."

She was a failure. She couldn't remember what Violet was talking about, and she couldn't answer Father's questions because she couldn't remember. It used to be just her and Father, no one else, and things were always so good. There weren't all these people saying things that didn't make sense or messing up everything. Violet was the first disruption, who Green put up with because she seemed to make Father happy, but now Black was around, and Red who had spilled her drink... Everything was so much more complicated now and she didn't like it. She liked being alone in her room, reading. Playing chess. Making supper for herself and Father. Just the two of them. She never felt like this when it was just her and Father.
She could feel his gaze on her and she felt judged, like he could see into her soul and at any moment he would find her failure and cast her aside - he had Black and Red now, so maybe that meant he didn't need her anymore. But then, relief. He said he believed her, and she could feel the tension that had been coiling inside her release and she let out a sigh. She hadn't been lying, but to hear Father acknowledge that he believed her truth was the greatest of reliefs. Father's hand cupped her cheek and she sank into the touch, allowing her head to be turned back toward him. She always felt most comfortable when Father was in control. Their eyes locked and he smiled at her, a real and true and beautiful smile and she smiled back, feeling lighter an air. It was so easy for him to make her feel comforted, even barely moments after he'd made her feel almost sick with worry. "I believe you," he repeated, and her vision swam as tears of relief found their way out. "Thank you."

Tom wiped Green's tears with gentle hands, alive in the afterglow of power such a moment gave him. This was why he did what he did. She had such a need for that approval; that belief from him; a need for him. He was a God.
He was reminded of things Gods did not need to worry over, however. Things like idiot sleuth savant ajatars. He could hear Violet whistling down the hall, traipsing down the steps with all the grace of a freshly born deer, and it instilled in him a stalwart motivation. He had work to do before he could rest on his laurels. Green's adoration of him was intoxicating, but it was not going to solve the number of problems that had begun to blossom around them.
"I trust you'll be good," He smiled, shifting his hand from her cheeks to her hand, and giving it a light squeeze as he stood.
Black and Red2 had yet to return, but they would shortly, and would require instruction. He considered scribbling out a note as he righted and buttoned his cuffs, but then he caught sight of Green, and decided she had earned some level of trust back tonight. "Zechariah and Scarlet require your guidance, Green. I'm going to trust that you'll keep them both from trouble. Can you do that for me?"

Father's fingers were gentle against her cheek as he wiped away her tears, the touch of his skin on her own like electricity. She would do anything for it. For him. He told her he trusted her to be good, and she nodded fervently in agreement. She would be good. She would be a Good Daughter. She wanted Father to continue praising her, and wiping her tears, and squeezing her hand reassuringly. She wanted him to love her more than he loved Black or Red.
Speaking of Black and Red, Father gave her a task. He told her to keep them both from trouble, and to be trusted with such responsibility so quickly after a failure was both elating and worrisome. It was a test, to see if she truly was worthy of being forgiven. And she wanted to pass it, she really really did. "Yes Father, I can do that. I won't let you down." She was eager for the chance to prove herself.
Tom nodded pleasantly at Green's assent before turning to one of the doors, the one that lead out to the halls. "I expect nothing less," He mentioned without so much as a backward glance, opening the door and allowing for Violet's whistle to grow in volume.
This would be good, he decided. He could take care of Violet; alone he always had better opportunities with her. Ways he could manipulate the responses he wanted out of her - without her needling any secrets out of his ACACIAs. He would be served well in his absence, too. Each of them would be tested, and the results would inform his next move.
Green would enforce the strict rules he laid upon the household, Red2 and Black acting as watchers upon her. If she misstepped, or revealed a lie, he was sure he would learn of it.
Red2 would act as spy, her second test of the sort. If she could extract useful information without being discovered as untoward, he could very well slip her into his next outing. However, if the results were as messy as they had been in Dirys - delivered or not - he may need to reconsider her usefulness.
Which left Black... His test was quite possibly the most important. The control of the implant over Zechariah had been improving, but was not perfected. Tom had hopes that being around Green and Red2 would solidify the routine that best lead to control. He had no real way of knowing if his hypothesis was true, however. Not until he returned.
"I won't be late," He called back from the top of the stairs, enforcing a time limit on each of the tests. Then, he and Violet were gone, and the facility was sealed.

Green's eyes beamed at Black's question to Violet. It was unexpected of her; certainly he was simply trying to trap at Violet so that the master would be angry with her rather than Green. Even still, Green's gratitude brought a smile to Black's face. And it was truly his own, not in the "faux-Zechariah" manner he was growing more accustomed to. This just felt weird.
The moment was ruined when Red spilled her drink, and his own, right onto his lap. Thankfully, Red immediately sprung to apologizing, even tugging at his hand and pulling him away to the kitchen. He allowed the girl to pull him away, perhaps for the best. While Violet had finally loosed her lips, Black was not exactly optimistic that Green would be spared the master's ire.
For a few minutes, he could hear next to nothing. Occasionally a few voices were raised, but he couldn't make out the words. Then he could hear tears. Green's, no doubt. No doubt the master had scolded her, and Black would not dare challenge him on that. No, it must have been Violet's doing. She was wandering through the halls, whistling nonchalantly, but Black stood still. He truly had no idea why the master let her wander around seemingly with so much freedom.
"I won't be late," the master called as he left Black behind with his sisters.
Black pressed his hand to Red's back, leading her to Green. Standing over the dining table, opposite from Green, he rested his hands on a chair. "Are you alright, Green?"

Father and Violet left, and the sound of the door shutting felt like the sealing of a coffin. The test had begun, and as sure as Green had felt a moment ago she was now realizing that she wasn't sure at all. She wanted to make Father proud. She had to make Father proud, but the whole situation was still bugging her like an angry wasp flying at the back of her mind. Every time she tried to think about it she reached a hazy nothingness and it hurt like a vice grip around her temples to keep prodding at it. She didn't normally notice the absences that the doctor's implant caused, but this time it was different. This time the seal hadn't been as tight as it once was, and she'd gained access to memories forbidden to her - but only tangentially and not when she was actively looking for them.
She would have to think about it later, or not at all, because Black and Red had just come back out of the kitchen and she startled as they came into view. Black asked her if she was alright, and she put on a calm smile and nodded. "Yes Black, thank you. Father told me to look after you two while he is gone. We should clean up." She stood from her chair then and began to gather the dishes, falling easily into menial taskwork in an attempt to drown out the uncertainty she felt and the fear of what it was she didn't remember.
