6th Of the Shared Mind. Sunset. A few miles from Levis’ borders.
Riku had travelled a great distance.
He was searching for a man – an elf – whom he had come to learn was an acquaintance of a one Markus Woodrow II. Riku needed to know where this man was so that he could lead him to Elias Harel – his nemesis. Despite only existing for a short amount of time, there was no time to waste. Harel’s very existence was a plague amongst mankind that would be purged by Riku’s hand.
He found himself in Niseca, on the outskirts of the Levis region near Aleh. The Elven man that he was searching for was said to be from here – some miscreant named Taegen – hiding out from those in search of him. He was not doing a very good job, considering someone as ignorant as Riku could track his location so easily. Still, Riku was a more determined sort than your average person – perhaps Taegen was just unlucky.
The forests near Aleh were thick with trees and fauna, so much so that Riku almost completely bypassed the small wooden hut that he was searching for. It was exactly where his research had said it would be, which was a delightful surprise – it would save the extra frustrations of having to put effort into his search.
He approached the door casually; hands tucked away in the pockets of his fancy dress pants. Unlike his cavalier counterpart, Riku would remain the picture of suave. His trimmed suit no doubt stuck out in the greenery that he was surrounded by, but a future king must look Kingly at all times – even when on un-Kingly endeavours.
Lifting his leg, he kicked open the door to the wooden lodge, knocking the door clear off its hinges. Inside, a lean, rugged looking man sprung to his feet from the table he was seated at and reached for a weapon. “Ah ah ah,” Riku said, raising one hand from his pockets. “That will not be necessary, Taegen.” “Who are you, and how do you know my name?” The elf responded, stopping dead in his tracks.
The insolence. Who was he to ask Riku anything? Just a common criminal. No matter – he would be dealt with soon enough. “Just a passer by, on the hunt for something – Information. Information that you have that I need. Markus Woodrow II has ties to Elias Harel – I need to know everything that you know about them.” Riku slowly approached the man who then turned to face him. He likely thought that he could handle Riku in a fight. He was likely wrong. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” was Taegen’s reply. It was the wrong reply. In a second, a hand was clasped around his neck as Riku lifted the man off the ground and held him against the wall. “Taegen, I have little patience for your lies. I have killed quite a few people to make it to your doorstep for this information, and I will not be denied. What is the connection between Markus Woodrow and Elias Harel? I will not ask you a third time.” Riku tightened his grip around Taegen’s neck. It was his preferred method of killing someone. It was how he killed Elias Harel in the Dreamscape with Solana. It would be how he killed Elias Harel in reality.

[attr="class","wavesundtext"] It wasn't rare that Leigh was sent in heist teams, renowned for her stealth - and also for her ability to do the dirty work that some of the other pirates hesitated on. She rarely lead them, sans the job she'd gone to Aissic for, but she wasn't a lackey.
This wasn't a heist job. This was... Enforcement. So this time, she was the lead - and she was also alone.
Her target was one Riku Gouken, some stupidly dressed moron who was either incapable of covering his tracks, or simply didn't give a shit about it. He'd been messing with one of the Grail's best fences, and the Captain wasn't going to have that. If there was one thing you didn't mess with when it came to Merlyn Astra, it was his money.
That was why Leigh had tracked Gouken down, and had been following him through the forests of Niseca. She'd learned a few things about the man since then. He was tunnel-visioned (which was good for her), and he was strange as a fish on land. Who the hell took to the forests of Niseca dressed in a suit? Who wandered through brush without supplies? What was he looking for, and who in Fortuna was this guy?
In the end, Leigh figured it didn't matter. All she needed was for him to be far enough away from the Peacekeepers or the SSPB guards stationed in Niseca, and then she could do her enforcing. And maybe a little bit extra, just for fun. It had been a while, after all, since she'd gotten to... enforce. Usually it was just roughing someone up, scaring them. Bruises, shallow cuts - things that could heal. But hey, people could live without a finger, couldn't they?
The thoughts of what she'd do and say to the freak ran through her mind as she followed ever covert, ever in the shadows of the trees, ever far enough behind that her sounds were a distant rustle of wind. She was finally growing sick of the boring trees when her mark stopped at an unimpressive wooden hut. The people here didn't know how to live, it seemed. The homes were always small, always shabby, always-- A bang filled the air as Gouken busted the door down with a kick. Yeah, seemed about right. These houses were made for shit.
He entered the hut, and after a moment Leigh followed, pressing against the hut and looking through a slat to see what was happening. Some elf shit - Taegen, she could hear - was the guy's target this time. Leigh couldn't care less about the elf, he wasn't one of their people, and in fact... With the questions Gouken was asking, it seemed more likely that the elf was one of Woody's.
That could work, She smirked to herself, an idea popping into her head as she watched Gouken choke the elf out.
"Well shit," She commented as she slunk into the room, her hook tracing the walls and curling a cut of wood to the floor as she stuck to the wall and walked the perimeter. She didn't pull out any other weapon, not needing to threaten her mark yet. Nah, let him trust her. For now, they would be allies. Her eyes locked with Taegen, mild recognition playing on the elf's features. He likely couldn't place her, but he had enough of an idea to put her in the 'pirate' column. Which for an ally of Markus Woodrow never meant anything good. She spoke to Taegen then, ignoring Gouken for now, "Looks like someone beat me to ya, Taegen, and he's only got a hand to your throat. Lucky you. My message woulda been a little louder."
She slanted her eyes in Gouken's direction next, "Oh, don't let me stop you. This little shit needs lots of encouragement to talk, doncha Taeg?"

Riku grinned while Taegen struggled in his grasp. It was interesting when they resisted, despite knowing the fate the awaited them. He had been completely useless to Riku up until this point, and it did not seem like that would change. Either he truly did not know anything about Elias Harel, or he was fiercely loyal. Whichever it was did not bode well for Taegen.
The sound of something scraping against the wood alerted Riku to the presence of someone else. Another person. Perhaps someone else with information that he could use. Taegen had outlived his usefulness. She made a comment implying that Taegen was getting off easy – that she would be much worse to him than Riku would. Bother. What was worse than death? People rant and rave about methods of torture, but death is the end – death is always the end. “Hmm, I am sorry, Taegen. It appears that you have become obsolete.” Riku said quietly, and squeezed Taegen’s neck tighter.
“N-n-no wait, I’ll tell you eve- uck!” His neck snapped rather loudly, and the lifeless Elf crumpled to the floor. Riku turned his head towards his new audience. A woman – a dirty looking one at that. She held in her hand a hook, no doubt a weapon that she made mention of using on poor deceased Taegen. Or rather, it seemed that her hand was a hook. An interesting development. Riku brushed his ashen hair out of his face and turned fully towards the woman, adjusting his dress shirt as he did so. An important man must make every visitor feel important, after all.
Even if they were scum.
“My, my. My apologies, you appear to have come at a bad time, I’m afraid that poor Taegen is no longer accepting company.” Riku took two purposeful steps towards the woman, closing the distance considerably. She stood about two arm-lengths away. “On the other had, you appear to have knowledge that would prove most helpful. Tell me, do you know a Markus Woodrow, Miss… I’m sorry, I didn’t catch your name.” Perhaps a gentler approach, this time. Riku couldn’t very well go around killing everyone he came into contact with.

[attr="class","wavesundtext"] He didn't waste anytime, did he? The snapping of Taegen's neck didn't bother Leigh, not even managing a flinch out of her. At most, it was impressive he could do that with his bare hands. She'd seen Collosus do it better, of course - but he was a massive orc. This guy was... A guy. In a weird-ass suit. The only thing about it that bothered Leigh was how Gouken didn't get an answer to his question. That's how easily this freak killed, huh?
This was gonna need to be a lot more than enforcement.
A few broken bones wasn't gonna stop this shit from messing with their fences. In fact, a missing finger wasn't gonna stop him. No... Leigh was gonna have to do a lot worse than that. And damn, that was gonna be fun. As long as she stayed safe, of course. She didn't wanna lose life or limb for the Captain, no matter how much she respected him.
Gouken moved in on her, and Leigh kept herself still, moving only to turn to him fully. She cocked her head to the side and quirked her brows at his inquiry, looked bored as ever. "I didn't give it," She responded coldly, crossing her arms (hook over hand, of course), and looked dully into his strange eyes. What the hell race was this guy? Not an elf, not a human. Demon? He certainly acted it.
"You new? This whole continent knows that ol' fuckface," She moved off the wall, walking past him and going to Taegan's dead body. She kicked at it with her boot, looking for the telltale feeling of resistance around his pockets and his belt. She bent down and pulled a bag of coins tied to his belt free, emptying it into her own as she spoke, "You ask that question on the street and you won't know what to do with the crowd. Try again."

The woman intrigued Riku. She had watched him mercilessly snap Taegen’s neck, and she did not flinch. She did not even seem to care that he had stolen the opportunity for whatever it was that she came here for. Perhaps another interesting woman had entered his life, and Riku wanted to know more.
But first and foremost, he needed his information.
She asked if he was ‘new’, and claimed that everyone knew Markus Woodrow. The old fuck face; an interesting term, and certainly not one of endearment. Either she was always this brash and disrespectful, or Markus Woodrow held a dark place in her mind.
“Hmm, yes, the old fuck face,” Riku started as the woman robbed Taegen’s corpse. “He has some sort of connection to a man that I need to know about – a connection that no one seems to be talking about. Our Elven friend knew something, but would not say – you see where he is now. So now I turn to you. How well do you know Woodrow?”
Riku struggled to keep his voice level. With Solana, Riku saw a woman whose power made things like petty theft seem all but meaningless. This… thing, however, was a dirty, grimy thief – and her presence, though interesting, was irritating if it did not help his cause.

[attr="class","wavesundtext"] Politics, that was his game was it? He had a mean choke for a bureaucrat -- but at least the suit made sense now. Leigh considered what connection he might care about. If he was messing with one of their fences, it could be Merlyn - in which case this enforcement would turn into an assassination - or it could be some bumblefuck she knew nothing about. Either way, she could continue to blow Gouken off with dismissive responses - he wasn't being very convincing... But, it seemed more likely he'd let his guard down if she played along.
"I'd ask what's in it for me," She tapped on her satchel of coins, which gave a satisfying chink in response, and then nodded towards Taegen, "But I notice you don't do much positive reinforcement, and I don't have the time or interest in a fight. Simple and easy: I hope that one day I get to shove this hook into Woody's black heart, rip it out, and make him eat it. He's the reason for most of the bad shit in my life. As for who his friends are? Anyone with money. They like to sleep soundly without the risk of us degenerates sharing in the wealth, so they'll approve of whatever he does."
As she spoke, she rounded the room, looking for anything else of value. Shaking clay pots for coins (one had a ring in it, which was a decent score), and finally settling down to the table Taegan had been at and testing out the stew he hadn't been able to finish. "Who're you looking for? What makes this 'friend' of Woodrow's worth a body count?"
Post by Kikuriku Gouken on Feb 26, 2017 9:03:42 GMT -7
Riku watched carefully as the woman circled the room, robbing poor dead Taegen of his possessions. She was right in that he would not need them any longer, but Riku could not help but judge her for her actions. Sure, he had killed Taegen on a whim, but it was not disrespectful – if anything, he showed Taegen respect by giving him a quick and relatively painless death. Riku would not stoop so low as to steal from the elf.
She answered his query about Markus Woodrow, though did not divulge much information about herself in process. Only that she was a degenerate, which Riku had already deduced. He stroked his chin, thinking of what exactly made her a degenerate, and if it was something that could be used to his advantage. But first, he could not be rude. “I am looking for information about a particular connection with a one Elias Harel, dastardly dictator of Muerte. Our friend here had that information - he does not any longer,” Riku sat across from the woman, clasping his hands together while resting his elbows on the table. “If I may ask, what is it that you are doing here? Poor Taegen could not have made an enemy of a… person… such as yourself, could he?”
Riku wondered for a moment why a woman would have a hook for a hand, and struggled to think of a reason besides the obvious. He didn’t know much about the world, but his searching for Markus Woodrow inevitably lead to his discovery of pirates.

[attr="class","wavesundtext"] Elias Harel? That's what this guy cared about? Some asshole in the desert was damn far, far away from anything the Grail would be concerned about. Leigh could almost laugh - though for Leigh that usually meant a scoff and something akin to a grimace at the same time.
Instead, her face stayed steely, and she sipped at the soup. It was nasty. People from Niseca ate like shit, she decided. She pushed the bowl to the centre of the table, the broth spilling over and onto the table, though Leigh didn't seem to notice or care. "He's SSPB, I'm a criminal. Seems pretty one plus one is two, but..." She decided she'd give him what he wanted here, to be right... Even if it meant lying in that same deadpan voice she used for everything except bedding women, "You got me. Taegen was supposed to be an informant for... Someone I work for. Seemed like he was either playing both sides... Or his info just wasn't good'nymore. I was sent as enforcement..." She shrugged a bit, "If he'd been more useful lately, killing him might've put you on my shit list. Lucky for you, I guess."
"As for your keen interest in a guy like Harel, I guess I got something. Stumbled onto some info, thought it was bullshit, but seems like it lines up with what you've got. But... I think I've given you enough freebies. So how 'bout a deal?"
Post by Kikuriku Gouken on Feb 28, 2017 17:56:15 GMT -7
Riku tensed up sitting across from the woman, his hands gripping together tightly to attempt to hide it. She had made a passive comment about how he would be on her ‘shitlist’ had Taegen been more useful, and that he was lucky. The very thought of it made Riku’s blood boil, and it took a tremendous amount of effort to not reach over the table, grab a fistful of the wretch’s hair and smash her smug little face into the table multiple times. He’d surely killed other people for much smaller transgressions.
Alas, his quick temper would not get the better of him this time – Riku could admit that he had likely lost a number of potential leads because of his short fuse. In retrospect, perhaps even Taegen could have been more useful than he was, given the chance. This woman… this horribly, horribly unappealing woman would get a little more leeway.
And then she said it. Info. Information about Elias Harel that a moron like her thought was insignificant, but may be of actual use to Riku. His eyes lit up at the thought of finally having the leverage that he needed to attain an audience with Harel – or perhaps a detailed schedule of his day to day events to find the best opportunity to strike. The possibilities were endless!
However, there was a price. A deal, for she has given away enough ‘freebies’. Nothing she had said had been helpful at all up to this point, she Riku was not certain what she was referring to, but he would play her game.
“A deal, you say? Interesting. And what are the terms of this deal?” Riku eyed the woman closely – she had the aura of a person who was conniving, and that could not be ignored.

[attr="class","wavesundtext"] He was interested, good. It'd be too bad that she wouldn't get the fun of her usual enforcement tasks - but this guy seemed like a bigger risk than her usual hits. Seemed wiser to use words - this time, anyways. Next time she could always bring Colossus and Kali along for the ride... She was certain they'd have a blast.
For now though, it was just her, and they would both play nice. She crossed her arms - once again hook over hand - and leaned back in the chair just a tad, relaxed. "I give you all I've got on Harry," She promised, thinking back on all she could remember about the shit they'd found in the Aiss underground. If she found it now she'd have been a hell of a lot more interested, heck she would have taken the evidence for her own late-night reading material on-board the Grail. But back then she didn't believe a word of it. Now was a whole different ballgame.
"In return all you gotta do is lay off folks that my people have an interest in. Folk like Taegen here...(a lie) And the guy who told you 'bout him. The thief? Yeah, he wouldn't tell us shit about you, but he sang all 'bout Taegen. I'll make it easy on you--" She began digging her hook into the table, carving out a diamond with a blade-down dagger cutting through it in a rough and inconsistent scrawl, "They got this symbol 'round em, you don't kill or maim. Plain and simple, yeah?"
