Welcome to the world of Fortuna, a land of fantastic proportions. This is an original fantasy roleplay that takes place in a world developed over nearly a decade of work and collaboration. We aim to encourage all participants to have a hand in the stories of the characters here, and the world around them. Your choices are key - so make them with pride. You decide who wins the wars, you decide who becomes King, the world is ours, and together we will bring it to life!
It became immediately aware that the giant was not into flying. "Yet." But she would see, it was awesome. Better by far than being stuck on the ground forever, though he supposed when you had wings and could control yourself in the air it made it a lot easier. But that was why he hd offered to guide her! If he held her finger or pushed from behind or if she had some sort of rope or string he could fly them to Tasark faster than either of them could possibly walk, which was great because he didn't want to be out in this cold for two hours that was for sure.
She was still calling him Pill. "Hah, Pill." He decided that was probably just something he would live with.
He was also complaining about magical flying which, fine, he could live with that too and only be a little tiny bit offended, but then she suggested a magic carpet and he brightened. "Now a magic carpet, that I can do!" Might as well use illusions for good and make her feel less like she was going to die or whatever. With a flourish he crafted a maroon carpet with golden designs and little tassels at each corner (gotta have little tassels on the corners, that was like a flying carpet staple) and he flew himself over to the giant to help her get steady in the air. "Sit however feels most comfortable," he instructed as he made the illusionary magic carpet rise to meet her. "Do you have string or something on you? Then you could hold onto it in each hand and I'll take it by the middle and fly us to the place."
[attr="class","gurkpost"] She couldn't help but gape as the little fairy made a not little at all magical flying carpet she could sit on. So, not only could he make her fly float, but he could also conjure up a carpet out of nothing? That was a lot of magical punch in such a teeny tiny body. She decided then that she would happily accept his aid the next time she took any pills or pill-shaped objects, to make sure he knew that she appreciated him for who he was, and not just what he could do.
Gurk tried out a few different seating options -- cross-legged, on her stomach, one leg out one leg in -- and eventually decided to lay on her stomach for the safety it could provide. If she was gonna go flying off, there was a lot more carpet to grab when you started at the beginning. Pill asked something about a ring as she did all that, no, not a ring; Pill said something about a sling, no, his arm looked fine; Pill mentioned a string, and Gurk nodded quickly as her hands dove into her pockets. Buttons, buttons, lint, old molted quill, empty ink bottle (oh! that's why everything was stained blue), annnnd there. It was a string that was once green but was a little wet with dark blue ink was pulled out of her pocket and dried off on similarly stained fingers, but it was a string, at least.
Rill wondered how long he could last in this cold. Every gust of wind threatened to throw him off balance and he was shivering, but maybe once he started flying he would warm up a bit from the activity. He hoped so. He didn't want to think about possibly freezing to death now that he had finally escaped. He didn't actually want to die. Even when he had wanted to die it was only because it was the only option he had. Or rather, the only option he thought he had. He never wanted to get in a situation like that again. So, the sooner they got to Tasark the better.
The giant pulled out a string that stained her fingers blue and asked if it would work. "Yup!" He would rather have fingers stained blue from ink than blue blue from the cold, ay any rate! "Hold on to each end and I'll grab the middle." There would be less flying wildly around like that, and he could maintain the magic carpet illusion better if he knew it wasn't going to be all over the place. She did as instructed, taking possibly a second to figure out what he had said, and then he got into position. "Here we go!"
It was easy enough to pull someone through the air when they were magically levitating. He got up to speed gradually so she (hopefully) wouldn't be too uncomfortable and then they were whipping through the air, definitely headed towards real east. He hoped Tasark really was east, and that they could get there much faster now that they were flying, because he realized at these speeds that the wind was biting at his cheeks and he didn't have his flying goggles or hat and he missed both of those things terribly. Could he find suitable replacements in the mortal realm? He knew some fairies lived here all the time so maybe if he found them while he was looking for Endless and Tehodis he could get them replaced.
The landscape was a sea of blinding white and he could only barely make out random darker blobs he thought might be trees in the distance. He made sure not to hit any of the dark blobs as he flew and trusted Grurkamel or whatever her name was to let him know if she saw Tasark.
[attr="class","gurkpost"] Whoa. Pill could fly fast. It was pretty impressive, honestly, since he was so small and he wasn't just carrying his own little small body, but her not so small (by his standards) body. How was this even possible? She tried to figure out the physics of it, but they honestly didn't make any sense, as they required the power of his wings to be enormously huge, and so she decided the answer was just 'magic, that damn magic'.
"Boy, you sure fly fast, Pill!" Gurk yelled, the wind in her ears unfamiliar and making it feel like she really needed to, "So tell me about this fairy friend of your's! They got a talent like your's?"
Rill looked back over his shoulder when he heard the giant yelling something at him. Then he looked right back forward when he realized he should probably look where he was going since he had no idea where they were. Not that looking where he was going was even helpful because it was all white with fuzzy blobs but whatever. She asked him about his fairy friend and he shook his head. "He's not a fairy. He's a.. human. He remembered Endy's silver eyes that were unlike any he had seen on a human, but the boy had explained away by saying it was a mutation of some sort. "I'm looking for a Kina woman too. I don't even know where to start though, any ideas?" No harm in asking right? Not like there was much else to do while he was flying than talk, and if he was going to talk he might as well get some help with his predicament.
[attr="class","gurkpost"] A human and a Kina, huh? She'd heard of stranger combos, she supposed, including ones involving fairies. She thought of saying something about it, but a small part of the back of her mind told her not to, that there was something strange in the way Rill had said 'he's a... human' that might have involved some kind of specialty triple-A grade affection. Then again, that could have just been Pill being hungry, because boy was she ever hungry, it had been a long walk and she hadn't eaten much and so-- She slipped a finger into the ink-stained pocket and managed to locate a single solitary walnut, which she popped into her mouth and attempted to crack with her teeth (despite the inky flavour, it was still pretty delicious).
"Wewll," She spoke through the walnut that made her cheek puff out like a chipmunk, "Kina awe mowstwy in Wielsa-- buwt that's like the udder side of the worhld... Hoomans--" She spat out some chunks behind her and swallowed the rest of the nut before speaking again, "Humans are everywhere, though! Crazy things have so many flavours and varieties... Hey! Kinda like fairies! What'd he look like? Cause different kinds of humans seem to congregate in different places. Do you think there's like a feeling in their gut that draws them in? Honestly, humans are weird."
Rill really wished he could understand what she was saying, but instead all he got for the first part was garbled nonsense. It didn't help that the wind was still whistling in his ears either. It definitely sounded like the word Kina was in there somewhere though. The disembodied voice of Endless commented dryly, "You're never going to find them." Gee, thanks.
Maybe not with this giant's help anyway. Finally though he understood something she said and hoped her next piece of advice was more audible and useful. She asked what his friend looked like and said that humans settled just about everywhere, but he hoped maybe the way Endy looked would narrow it down a bit at least. "His skin is very pale and his hair is black. His eyes are like silver coins. He always wears this scarf that's green and blue striped, I think. I... haven't seen him in a while, but he can't have changed so much that I wouldn't recognize him if I saw him."
[attr="class","gurkpost"] Huh, maybe Gurk knew less about humans than she thought, because she definitely didn't think that Rill's description sounded like a human he had ever seen. Sure, black hair and pale skin was totally a thing but-- Silver eyes? That sounded mystical. Then again, Gurk hadn't made it a habit of going around and staring into the eyes of humans, particularly because she wasn't tall enough to do so. "Well heck, if he always wears a scarf, maybe he's around here somewhere! I mean, I don't know if you've noticed, but it is preeeeeetty cold here. Definitely scarf-friendly weather.
"Speaking of which, I really need to get a scarf. You need a scarf, too. You must be freezing. Wait, do fairies not feel temperature extremes? I'd love that power right now. My nose is running like a marathon!"
This was definitely scarf weather, though he doubted Endless would be here of all places. Then again, who was he to know? Maybe Endy loved the cold and he had moved here after escaping the feywild. They’d only known each other for a few days, and the more he had thought about that the more he had realized maybe he wasn’t as important to Endless as Endy had been to him. He didn’t want to think so negatively but after all the thinking he had time to do in the room it was hard not to have thought it. He had known Endy for what? Five days? Four? And he had been in the room for.. must have been about 200? He had essentially been in the room 40-50 times longer than all the time he had spent with Endless. And if Endless has escaped the feywild it could have been over four years for him. Four days, four years ago... it was hard to imagine Endy even remembered him, let alone cared that he had escaped.
It wasn’t like Endy had come back for him. Rill had almost died in there, and if he had Endless never would have even known.
He wanted to rip his own hair out at the frustration of it all. He hated how much he cared about Endless. He hated that he had spent the whole time in the room, and even now, with Endy following him like a shadow, feeling like they were spending time together when really it was just an illusion - or his imagination.
He had all these thoughts in less than the time it took for the giant to speak. They were all thought he’d had before, again and again and again while he wasted away in the room, so they came and went like waves at a beach. He pushed them from his mind again now.
Focus Rill.
The giant was cold. Yeah well so was he, but what could he do about it?
Oh wait, he could do something about that. It wouldn’t actually make them warmer, but he could create the illusion of warmth. They could still die from exposure but at least they wouldn’t feel it as much. Rill rubbed his hands together and focused on the flight warmth until he could feel it spreading, through him and then projecting it to the giant too. He hoped it would at least make the ride more comfortable, though he could feel the drain of maintaining the flying carpet and the warmth while also flying as fast as he could already making him tired. He knew he couldn’t keep it up forever, but he hoped he could at least maintain it until they got to... shoot where were they going? ”Lasark.”
”Better?” he called back to the giant. ”Also, fairies do feel temperature extremes unfortunately, but I’m hoping we get to Lasark fast enough that my wings don’t freeze solid.” he did not know if his wings could actually freeze solid, but he hoped to never find out.
[attr="class","gurkpost"] What in the heck was this little powerhouse? Gurk had to admit she was downright amazed. She was no expert on magic, but she was pretty sure little Pill was doing a zillion and one different kinds of it at once. The magic carpet was conjuration, like she had, but way more powerful -- the only thing her's could do was jet in and out of her little gear. Then there was the flying, and the making her fly, which was definitely transmutation. And then making her warmer? She didn't really know what that was, but it was something else, and it meant she had picked the best traveling partner possible. With her explosives, and Pill's mastery of magic, they'd have no problem with any baddies they came across in the tundra. Which could be many baddies, or none -- the tundra was unpredictable like that.
"Much!" She replied with a small laugh in her voice, "We should be there pretty soon, these trees are starting to look familiar... I mean, there's definitely some trees near Tasark, because they definitely do logging there, which I know since I've helped a time or too, but they aren't the only-- Oh, and did you hear that, Pill? It's called Tasark, With a 'T'! You gotta listen more carefully, buddy-pal!" Up ahead she spotted something, and squinted her eyes to get a better look. When that didn't help, she dropped her goggles down to her neck and pulled her glasses down. Curls of smoke were coming up from something, in fact, many somethings. Most likely conclusion: Buildings.
"I think that's Tasark! One o'clock!" Or, it could be some other town, but she was going to hang her hat on hopes this time.
