[attr="class","wavesundtext"] "Simple," She agreed as she pulled up the bottle for a swig, "He's probably out like a light, anyways." ...She didn't want Kali to be kicked off the ship, but she had to admit that it'd be interesting to see how she dealt with the situation. More interesting - and fun for Leigh - would be Wight losing. He'd be the best at the task, certainly, using his petty illusions... But she had good enough reason to think he'd lose, which could get him back for the cheating she presumed he'd done earlier.
"You're on," Leigh smirked as she slammed her cup down on the table. She only had four dice, and she'd be last in the round now with Maldrem starting... But in a lot of ways, it was the best place to be, "Whaddya got?"
Just a gold coin, Wight said. Mhm. Simple, they both agreed. Kali didn't care one way or the other of course; if it was difficult that would only make it more interesting. She shrugged again. "Yeah alright." What was the worst that could happen? She doubted the captain would kill someone for trying to steal a coin for a bet, and anything else he could do would only be fun for Kali. Kali was surprised that none of the spectators wanted to join the game. Maybe they knew better.

And let the games begin!
L eigh and Kali both appeared to be amenable to the conditions, and they had both laid their dice down now. This, of course, made Maldrem very pleased, as he was going to enjoy the results of this no matter who came out on top this time. Hell, he was completely willing to play legitimately at this point.
He glanced under his cup, lifting it just a crack, then replaced it. Well now that was an amazing hand if he ever did see one. Two 3's, and three 1's. He narrowed his eyes smugly. "Let's start this off with a bang, hm?" He laid an elbow on the table and rested his cheek against his fist. The fingers on his right hand had returned to drumming lightly against his cup. "Five threes."
He dared them to call him on it. Of course, if he knew Leigh, he knew she wouldn't; anyone who started the game with such an outrageous claim obviously had to have it. Only a fool would risk lying about something like that on turn one. But he wondered if Kali would have the same sense.
Either way, this put pressure on them both, forcing them both to make larger claims or else duck out as the loser immediately. It was about to get very interesting.
OOC note: I rolled on the randomizer and im outraged that i got such a ridiculous hand hahaha
Son of a bitch. Five 3's? Was he doing this as a laugh because last game Leigh lost with her call of five 3's? Was he lying, or did he actually think there would be that many 3's? Whatever the case, Kali resented him for starting the round at such a high number already. If he did have five 3's, that didn't leave many dice to be different numbers so it would be poor choice to call five or six of anything else. Kali knew enough about the game to know that she had the next call, and she decided if he was going to be ridiculous, so was she. "Five 6's," she countered confidently, despite having no idea if there were even close to that many 6's on the board. And still not knowing that 1's were wild.

[attr="class","wavesundtext"] She was tempted to drive her hook into Wight's hand for that call. Five threes, just what he'd called her on. What was he playing at? Who did he think she was? She wanted to call him on it, but glumly accepted that he had enough threes to make it seem reasonable. Even if he had three, guessing that there were five wasn't much of a challenge, particularly as it set the precedent for aces wild.
It was Kali's call that really had her confused. It was such a change. If she assumed that Wight had at least three threes... Perhaps Kali had none. Perhaps she had been tempted to call Wight on it, but realized what Leigh might hold under her's. Or perhaps Kali really was a glutton for punishment, just asking for a tough challenge. Did she really savour embarrassment the way she savoured a hook in her neck? She was more interesting by the second, and Leigh wanted to know her... All of her. Which would be easier to do if Wight was busy with the captain.
She peeked at her dice and smiled. She was almost certain now that Kali's call was fruitless, unless she had a hand of sixes. Either way though, Leigh was certain that in her four dice - the fifth in her pocket from her previous loss - she had enough to improve the call.
"Seven 4's," She claimed as the cup dropped back down, the dice now memorised. She leaned back in her chair, putting her boots up on the table with a thump. It was a gutsy bet, she simply could have gone with six and had more faith in her guess... But she didn't want to give Wight a chance to jump to seven before she could. He could only up the bet of 4s, piggyback off of Kali's ridiculous claim of sixes, or guess that eight of the dice on the table - of fourteen - were 4s. She was certain all three would be wrong. "Anything, Wight?"

Every which way leads to victory...
M aldrem had gotten pretty much exactly the reaction he wanted out of these two. Leigh had looked like she wanted to murder him for his call, and he took such a serene sense of satisfaction in that. He was an agitator, and he knew and embraced it. Even Kali had seemed somewhat irked at it, though more probably because it made it more difficult for her to play.
She'd called an absurd number, but it was still feasible; after all, Maldrem had three wilds, so just three other sixes on the board out of nine dice (his own not included), was perfectly possible. Leigh's, though, was only a little less likely. She'd jumped up to seven, and called fours as well. He knew three of his own dice would qualify. But once again, the chances of four more 4's being present was plenty high enough for Leigh to win that guess.
He supposed he could call her on it now. Either she wound up being wrong, lost the bet, and Maldrem won, or... she wound up being right, and Maldrem lost the bet, but, still "won", seeing as how he wanted to rob the captain anyway.
Or he could go with the third option and let the claims get bigger, just because that made everyone sweat a little more and made the game more fun. After all, it's not like he minded if he got called on a lie.
"Eight. Threes." He clipped the words precisely.
He knew he had five. He just needed there to be three more, of either 3's or 1's, on the board. Doable enough. He wondered if Leigh would put it together that he'd managed to accumulate so many wilds in his hand, to be able to make his claim. If she did, well... that'd just make it more likely that she could use those wilds against him. How titillating!
Kali realized the fun of this game wasn't in the dice, and mostly came from the fun of seeing how far you could bluff before someone called you on it.
Leigh called seven 4's, which meant that at least half of all the dice on the table would have to be 4's. Kali thought the odds of that were incredibly low, given that she herself had only one 4 in her roll, but she didn't care to call Leigh on it. She wanted to see where Wight took it from there. When he called eight 3's she clicked her tongue. "Bullshit." Unless all of his dice were 3's and three of Leigh's four dice were also 3's, there was no way that was possible. The next step after a bullshit call was to show dice, so Kali removed her cup which revealed her dice to be 6, 4, 6, 5, 2 and waited to see if it was her or Wight who would be breaking into the captain's quarters for some gold. Personally, she didn't like his odds.

And the curtain rises! The result is...?
H e hadn't actually expected Kali to be the one to make the call, but ultimately it didn't really matter. He'd just made a big claim, and now it was finally time to lift the cups and see who got to walk away with victory.
He lifted his cup and revealed his hand: 3, 1, 3, 1, 1. He was a little disappointed to see neither 3's nor 1's in Kali's hand, as it made it less heart-poundingly exciting that way. After all, Leigh only had four dice now, which meant the odds of her having the three remaining 3's he needed were much slimmer. It was both more and less thrilling, somehow.
Still, the chance persisted. He gave Leigh a smile. "Well Leigh? You have the three magic numbers I need? Who's off to see Cap'n tonight?"

[attr="class","wavesundtext"] He was going big, wasn't he? Leigh put her feet back down and made to stand up -- but Kali spoke first, so instead, Leigh just leaned back to see how this would work out for Mal. She knew her hand. She knew what she would need to see from him and Kali in order for him to succeed.
Kali revealed her's first, despite not being the one being called on. She was unfamiliar with the game, which made Leigh surprised with herself that she didn't want to gang up on her... But Wight had ruined any such focus when he'd cheated her, she wouldn't let go of the thought no matter what proof was shown. Leigh leaned back in when Mal revealed his, and schooled her face to show no reaction at what the combination of the two meant.
"Well well well," She tsked and shook her head, looking crestfallen at Kali. Wight smirked at the look... And then Leigh gently pulled the cup off, letting them see her numbers:
1.
4.
4.
4.
Not even close.
"Looks like we're going to be down another player, newbie, hope you don't mind a little one-on-one," The baleful look turned to a smirk, which she aimed at Wight, "Hope the captain's having a nice, deep sleep tonight. It'd be just terrible if someone were to wake him up the first night of our biggest month, wouldn't it?"
Wight revealed his dice and showed that he in fact only had two 3's, and Kali scoffed. Only two 3's? Even his first call had been unrealistic. Now, even if every single one of Leigh's four dice was a 3 he still wouldn't have enough to back up his claim. He was sunk.
But, he didn't look like he knew he was sunk. Instead, he asked Leigh if she had the three numbers he needed. Now, Kali wasn't a mathematician but she had gone to school long enough to know that 2+3 wasn't going to equal 8, which was what he called. There was something else going on here that she was missing out on - a rule perhaps that she hadn't picked up while watching the game? But what rule could make five 3's be the equivalent of eight?
Ooooooh. Oh. She realized then that he had three 1's in his roll, and 5+3 would equal 8. "Huh." She guessed it figured they wouldn't explain that particular rule to her. Pirates.
That meant that he technically did stand a chance, if Leigh had any 3's or 1's. He didn't have much of a chance, but it was more reasonable than she had initially thought. When Leigh 'well, well well'-ed and gave Kali a look, she almost even believed it. But she didn't think Leigh would have called seven 4's if she didn't have at least a couple of them, and it turned out she did indeed. In fact, with her knew knowledge that 1's were whatever you wanted them to be she saw that Leigh even would have had enough to support her call. Leigh said she hoped Kali didn't mind a little one-on-one, as they were about to lose another player, and then went on to goad Wight about his impending task.
