Kikuriku hadn’t thought about how Miss Green would return the satchel to him, because he had no intention of keeping it. What use would he have for a manpurse, the least manly of all things in the universe? Nay, he would stick to having insufficient pocket space over the thought of being perceived as a ninny. “I’ll tell you what, Greenie,” Kiku said, adopting a nickname for his new friend. “You can buy it from me. And before remind me that you don’t have any money – I’m not selling it for money. I’m selling it for information.” He smiled at the girl happily; glad to have given such a sweet girl a nice gift – even if he had stolen it. Besides, if the authorities ever suspected that Kiku had stolen the bag, it made more sense to part with it. “I’m looking for the Tablet. It’s this newsy type place somewhere around here, and I’m afraid I don’t know the way. Or the hours. Or anyone who works there. So if you can help me with that, the bag is yours to keep.” A simple exchange: information for a bag. Kiku had made much more terrible deals for a much worse rewards in the past. He recalled a deal regarding breaking into the home of an established businessman outside of Submeire, and all he received for it was a firm handshake. With hands too, not even the good kind.

Green wasn't sure what she thought about Kikuriku's nickname for her. She didn't like 'Greenie', but also she felt that the fact he gave her a nickname was a good thing, and she liked to think it was because, maybe, he considered her a friend? Green had no friends. In fact, her interactions with people were limited to Father, Black, Violet, and the storekeepers she met while out on errands. And sometimes business partners of Father, if he chose to introduce her to them. None of those people could be considered friends. She decided not to say anything, and smiled instead.
Kiku said she could buy the bag from him and get to keep it, and he immediately knew what she was thinking and assuaged her worry by saying he didn't want money for it, but rather information. That didn't necessarily make her feel better though, as she knew a great deal about a very small amount of topics, but she knew almost nothing about any topic she hadn't read in a book. She was considering telling him as much, but she didn't want to disappoint her new friend and so she nodded and agreed to the terms, hoping he asked about constellations or the anatomy of the human brain or something else she had read about.
It turns out the information he was looking for wasn't something she had learned in a book, but from a person. She was surprised actually, that the one thing she did know outside of reading was what he asked of her. She was delighted though, because it meant she could help. "I know the Tablet," she replied, pleased that she was going to be able to assist him. "And I know someone who works there. Well, she works as a correspondent, but that's close enough right? I don't know if she would be there right now, but I know where it is, if you wouldn't mind walking with me a bit more? Or I could point it out on a map, if you have one?"

Perfect.
Miss Green knew what the Tablet was, and better yet, she knew someone who worked there. Kiku had to keep from literally jumping for joy, but was so excited that he could not contain some show of how ecstatic he was; he settled for a very exaggerated pelvic thrust. “Yes!” Kiku exclaimed. “Thank you so much, Greenie! You’re now my best friend. I don’t have a map, so if you don’t mind walking me there? That is, if you have the time. I’m sure your father is expecting those groceries soon. We can swap stories about ourselves to pass the time.”
Kiku had many questions about the woman who stood in front of him. He remembered that something looked off about her, and even as he spent time with her he could not put his finger on it. He examined her as closely as he could without drawing suspicions – it was rather creepy to blatantly stare at a woman when you were right in her line of sight.

Green had literally never seen someone do a pelvic thrust before. In fact, she didn't know what a pelvis was technically. She knew a lot about the brain and even some anatomy but if she was to be asked about what was under Kiku's pants she would have assumed it was the same as under her own, which would have been wrong even if Kiku was a woman because Green's lower half was... unique.
But she wasn't actually thinking about any of that, but rather about how strange the action was to begin with and what exactly he meant by it? But he looked happy, and he thanked her enthusiastically so she assumed it was a good thing. It was still weird though.
He said she was now his best friend, and she smiled because she wanted to be the best, and she had never been friends with anyone before. "I can walk you there, yes! I like stories, can you start?" She couldn't stay out too long, but Father had been too busy with Black to specify a time when she had to be back by, so she could just say she was held up on the way home. Which she was. And she wanted to learn more about Kiku, and maybe more about this whole friend thing too.

When Green had agreed to walk with him, Kikuriku was excited. He wasn’t well acquainted with the area, and it was better the have a guide. He’d lied about having a map – he was never good at following directions – so things were beginning to turn in his favour. And to have such a colorful companion was a nice change over the dull (though super cool) Rose.
They began walking as Kiku thought of a story to tell. Stories were never his strong point – all of his adventures were illegal acts that he didn’t take to bragging about for fear of being apprehended by law enforcement. He didn’t care much for those who would try to lock him up, even though he was more than positive that no cell could hold him. It was more the thought of being caged up that discouraged Kiku, so he decided against telling Green one of his amazing, harrowing stories of grand theft.
Ichabod came to mind – his story from the Elder Wood. The exact wording of the story was lost to Kiku, but the final stanza was etched into his brain. Thinking back to it, Kiku knew there was no way that he could emulate the terror of that story, so he wouldn’t try – he’d put his own spin on it.
“Alright, this is a story I heard from a friend. It’s a true story,” Kiku began. Stories were always better when they were true. “This is a story of a boy and a man. A boy who is foolish, and a man who is wise. The boy is adventurous and impatient; the man is experienced.” Kiku realized as he was telling the story that he didn’t remember it nearly as well as he thought he did, and decided that he would just make it up off the top of his head. He was saving the story of Ichabod the demon for somebody at the Tablet anyway, so it was best no to spoil it here.
“So the boy walks into the woods and he spies the man. The man was sitting, picking flowers or some such nonsense, and the boy wanted to have fun. The boy hid in the shadows and called out to the man. The man, though experienced, did not notice the boy. The man answered the boy, and revealed his secrets. You see, Green, the boy was not as foolish as many believed. Though he was impatient, he was very quick on his feet, and he knew not to play with fire. The boy watched the man, and learned from him. He learned a great many things – much more than the man hoped to reveal, I’m sure.”
As an amateur storyteller, Kikuriku had no idea how to end the story. He wasn’t even sure that he was telling a story, or if Green was even interested. She seemed to be, but Kiku guessed that she could also just be being polite.
“As the boy watched the man, the boy learned the value of secrets. Of knowing things about other people, while not revealing anything about himself.” Kiku lowered his voice to barely a whisper, just enough for Green to hear.
“That way, he could remain unseen. Unheard. But always there. Like a shadow.”

When Kiku said his story was something he heard from a friend, she wondered if he had forgotten that he said they should tell stories about themselves. She didn't mind hearing any story, really, but she wanted to learn more about her new friend too. Father read her stories sometimes if she was good, though his stories were often... academic papers. She loved them though, she really did. The point was to walk and talk, so as Kiku began speaking she started walking them in the direction of the Tablet offices.
She listened eagerly as Kiku told his tale, and it was very different from any story she had ever heard before. For one, it was actually a story. She was enraptured from beginning to end, and the moral of the story seemed... different, from anything she had ever thought. Keeping secrets? Knowing things about other people, but not revealing things about yourself? It was essentially the opposite of everything she had ever been taught by Father.
"That was an excellent story, Mr. Gouken! It was a little.. scary? But very good! Probably the best I've heard."" She didn't know how to follow it up, really. Did he want to hear an exciting story like that too, or did he want her to tell him an actual story about herself? "What story should I tell?" Yes, excellent. She was good at doing what other people told her to do.

This girl must not get out much.
He’d not told the story very well, but Green still thought Kiku’s story was, quote, the best she’d ever heard. He’d thought for a moment that, had she been in the Esper Wood with him, she would have loved Ichabod’s version much better. He’d hoped that she would never meet Ichabod, so that he could retain the almighty title of Awesome Storyteller.
As they walked further down the street, Kiku noticed something... odd about the way that Green was walking. In reality, it was something odd about her entire body, but he couldn't quite place it. Her entire existence was quite baffling, but it made her very enjoyable to be around. Her hair was pretty kick-ass, too.
“What kind of story do I want to hear, hmm,” Kiku thought for a moment. He didn’t know how far they had to travel, so he didn’t want a very long one. He decided that it would be best just to get to know the girl a little bit better. “Why don’t you tell me a story about your dad? Or your brother, you said you had one? Something about them. Parents provide the best stories.”

Kiku said she should tell him a story about her dad or her brother, which she thought was a great idea. She knew exactly the story that she wanted to tell. "Okay, I will tell you the story of the day before Father left for an important business meeting. He was busy in the morning, so I played chess. When he finished, he came to my room and gave me a gift - a book about the anatomy of the human brain. I love reading, and learning, so Father gives me books as gifts on occasion. It's very thoughtful. He said that we should do something together before he left, and asked me to pick, so I asked him if he could take me for a ride in his aeroplane! He said it was a wonderful idea, and we flew until after the sun went down. It was the most fun I've ever had. Father is an expert pilot, and he made the plane so spins and loops. It was beautiful." She paused contemplatively before adding, "There is no moral of my story, except perhaps that aeroplanes are incredible."
She smiled at Kiku then. This was fun! It was kind of like when Father asked her to tell him what she had done that day.

Listening to Green’s story made Kiku feel homesick, and he longed for his mother. Hearing how enamoured she was with her father made him wish that he had gotten to know his father more before he’d died. He wondered if his father would take him on aeroplanes, or that if he’d ever even been on one. He wondered if his father would have even wanted to spend time with him, if he would appreciate the person that Kiku had become – a thief, a liar. It wasn’t a good feeling. “Haha!” Kiku laughed. Not that her story was particularly funny, because it wasn’t, but he felt more relaxed with Green around. She had a certain lightness about her that put Kiku at ease. He wasn’t thinking so much about Ichabod and his demonic aura, but about soaring through the skies doing loop-de-loops and such. “Oh, Greenie, I’m jealous! I’ve done a lot of things, but I’ve never been in an aeroplane. And your dad owns one? That’s amazing. I’m jealous. Positively green with envy.”
It wasn’t his best pun, and he was sure she’d heard similar things all of her life. Determined not to let her run away and never talk to him again, as she still had a role to play, Kiku hurried along.

Green didn't think her story was particularly funny, but laughter was a positive response so she hoped it meant he liked it. He said he was jealous, as he had never been in an aeroplane at all. To be fair she hadn't either, before or since that time, but she was stunned and also perhaps a bit excited to have something she had done that the man hadn't. She didn't do many things, so it was kind of nice knowing she had experiences that not everyone had. When he made the green with envy joke she broke out in a grin and then laughed happily. She had never heard that joke before, at least as far as she could remember, and she thought it was actually quite hilarious. She didn't hear a lot of jokes.
Kiku asked how much farther until they reached the Tablet, and she thought for a moment as though it might be very far, and then they rounded a corner and she beamed. "We're here already! It's just there, at the end of the street." She pointed to the building and looked mighty pleased with herself. "Did you want to walk with me still, or do you want me to leave now?"
