Getting two younglings back in Aissic had been amazing. Not just for Nikolai, either - and not just for the story. Violet wouldn't admit to it, but she'd felt a surge of pride like nothing she'd felt before. She wasn't merely commenting on something happening in the world, reporting on it, she was a part of it. Without her - she selfishly thought - Nikolai would have never been able to get them out of that circus. Or if he had, it would have been much harder, and might have caused a lot more injury. No, she had been important - integral to the events in Aissic.
But two rescued younglings just wasn't enough.
Thankfully two rescued younglings had given them another clue to work off of, and Violet knew just where to go for more information. She'd said her goodbyes to Nikolai, promised the two would meet again shortly, and left for Artavia whilst he returned to Niseca. The younglings could be returned, comforted, healed, and Violet could go home herself. To The Tablet. There, she'd be able to get some information, run her current story by her editor, and maybe call Tom--
"Miss Green!" She called out as she approached The Tablet. There was no mistaking the girl. Her skin was strange enough, her hair was stranger, and the way she walked completely gave her away. Violet hurried to catch up to her, hardly realizing that someone else was with her, "Well tickle me pink and call me Magenta!" She slung her giant bag of journals farther onto her bag and yanked Green in for a hug, "Is your father around? I was thinking--"
As she looked around for Tom, her eyes caught Green's companion instead. Her attractive companion. "Oh," She managed, her smile turning incredibly mischievous as she put two-and-two together to make five, "Oh-ho. I suppose he's not, is he?" She offered a hand to the young man, now far more interested in interrupting this little walk of their's, "Violet." In Violet's mind, Green was on a date, and she wondered if Tom knew - if Tom approved. She was his ward, after all, and he had shown himself to be quite protective... And this young man wasn't just cute, he was downright handsome. Ruggedly so. Not clean-cut like the kind Tom would likely favour for his Green. Oh Miss Green, Violet thought excitedly, You just became so much more interesting, didn't you?

Green recognized the voice immediately when she heard her name called and for just a fraction of a second before she turned to greet the woman her expression turned cloudy, but by the time she was facing Violet she had her usual placid smile on her face. As usual, Violet was a conversation bulldozer, she asked a question and then without even waiting for the answer she continued on except this time something stopped her, and Green blanched a little when Violet's eyes settled on Kiku.
Father had not said, this time, not to interact with anyone she didn't have to in order to get her errands done, so she wasn't technically disobeying him by being with Kiku right now. But the way Violet spoke made her nervous, made her realize that technically not disobeying Father was almost the same as actually disobeying Father, and even if it wasn't Father might think of it like that, and Violet knew Father and he might tell him and then Father would never think she was a good daughter ever again. He would never trust her alone, he might not even let her run errands anymore, he would never give her any more books.
Green tried to regulate her breathing. Deep breaths, in, out, in. She lost her breath so quickly in Artavia. Father said it was because of the height there was less oxygen, but sometimes she felt that breathing in general was hard for her, like it wasn't what her body was meant for. It was a silly thought, because what else could she possibly breathe but air? But still, that thought came back to her now as she tried to calm herself, and with the thought came the feeling of floating from her dream. It helped ease her racing heart. "Father is at home with Black," she said quietly, finally answering the question Violet had asked, even though Violet hadn't seemed to care about the answer. She had to answer questions, and she had to answer them honestly. Father always said so.

Before Kiku had an opportunity to answer Green about whether or not she should leave (which he would never suggest to happen), his protests were interrupted by the entrance of a strikingly peculiar looking woman. She hugged Green as if they were friends, and made some sort of reference to being tickled magenta. Kiku wasn’t even sure what that meant, it all happened so quickly that he couldn’t pay attention.
Her eyes locked onto Kiku’s, and he immediately felt as though he had been sized up, weighed and measured – thoroughly inspected by the eyes of an expert as she smiled mischievously at him. She offered him her hand and introduced herself as Violet. A theme seemed to be emerging – he wondered when their friend Orange was going to chug along with their other friend Blue.
Ridiculous name.
“Beautiful name. Violet,” Kiku took her hand in his and dipped his head as respectfully as possible, touching his forehead to her fingertips. “My name is Kikuriku Gouken, but you can just call me Kiku.” Beside him, he heard Green tell Violet that her father was home with Black.
Black is not a name. What have I gotten myself into?
“We were actually just on our way to the Tablet – I’ve got some business there. Greenie here was just guiding me.”

Greenie? Oh, this was fun. So, so fun. She loved having dirt on people, and it seemed like Green had just tunnelled through Dirys with how dirty she was. She was an adult, so it's not as if Violet thought what she was doing was wrong - in fact, she quite loved that she was doing it. She thought the girl was too much of a shut-in. But... Tom wouldn't like it. Which meant it was juicy. Gossip juicy. No, Violet... You're a real reporter now. Blackmail juicy. Better.
And he was heading to The Tablet? There weren't many reasons people visited the business except to complain, vandalize or... Well, that was all she had experienced from those looking for her. But... Kiku didn't seem enough of a negative-nancy to complain, and he seemed just a tad too old to be a vandal. It was a good thing investigative journalist Violet Macar was on the case.
Violet ignored Green entirely, purposefully, noticeably, and instead grinned at Kiku. "Well!" She smiled and situated herself in between the both of them, locking their arms in her's, "Just so happens that's where I'm headed, as well. Did Greenie tell you she knows someone who works there, Kiku?"

Green still wasn't sure what she thought about the nickname 'Greenie' but she knew without a doubt that she did not like that Violet heard him say it. She could see the look on her face, in her eyes, as soon as it left Kiku's mouth. She had wanted to help Kiku out, but now she was beginning to wonder if this was all an elaborate trap to catch her disobeying Father. Not that she was, because she wasn't. She didn't know this, but she couldn't. She just wasn't following the spirit of the game, veering off course through a loophole. It wasn't very sporting, but then again Dr. Dunn played dirty.
Violet pushed her way between the two of them and linked arms, forcibly with Green but much more suavely with Kiku. Green pulled against Violet halfheartedly, knowing that even if she untangled herself and left at this very moment, it wouldn't help her case. In fact, if she left right now Violet was all the more likely to tell Father what she had been up to. If she stayed, she might be able to convince her not to mention anything.
When Violet called her Greenie she decided she really didn't like the nickname. Green had told Kiku she knew someone who worked at the Tablet. She had been hoping to mention her name and then leave before he found her, but here they were. She was stuck now, no doubt about it. She hoped Father wouldn't be angry when she returned home much later than expected.

Kikuriku immediately took a liking to Violet. Her energy, her attitude and her looks played a large part in that. He smiled brightly at her when she told him that that was where she was headed.
Perfect! Now the three of us can take this journey together! Bonds will be formed! “Well, as a matter of fact, I have purchased her services!” Kiku continued his smiling ways as he finger-gunned both of his hands towards Green’s new bag that he ‘bought’. “It’s a bit of a long story but she’s taking me there. Shall we all go? You guys can help me find someone there – I’ve got something that needs to be heard by the right ears.”
He glanced over at Green, who seemed to be rather uncomfortable with the situation. His first instinct was that she was upset because she was enjoying all of the alone time she was having with Kiku, and didn’t want to share her with an equally appealing and interesting woman. Something, though, told him that this wasn’t the case. Her mind was preoccupied with something, and he wondered if it was something he did. Her father was probably expecting her, maybe Kiku was being selfish by keeping her with him.
Oh well, parents can suck it. Kiku was more important.

As Kiku pointed out the bag, Violet gasped and grabbed it from Green's hands, almost dropping the groceries in the process, and absolutely pulling Kiku and Green's arms around with her as she moved. "Is this a real La Cheri?!" She took a screeching breath in as she observed the tell-tale signs that indeed it was before shoving it back into Green's arms and stopping their pace completely.
She loosed her arms from the two, dropped her bag, and with an overdone flourish of her hands, floated one of her journals from her bag to her hands. Well, tried to. The bag's zipper was still done up, so the bag instead lifted. She cleared her throat, unzipped the bag in front of her face, and then pulled the journal free. "You're in luck, Kikuriku Gouken. The right ears have found you!" She pulled one of her hairpins free and performed an over-exaggerated bow holding the hairpin above her head as she finished, which turned into a bright purple peacock-esque quill.
Oh, if this young gentleman had something of interest, and was the kind of ruggedly handsome young man who could also get his hands on La Cheri bags brand bags, there was no way she was letting him into The Tablet. Her competitors would be there, waiting for a story. And yes, she already had a good one -- but not this one.
"Seems Greenie earned her paycheck, didn't you, little miss?" Violet stood up straight and nudged the green-toned girl, offering her a friendly wink. She decided to let Green know her secret was safe (for now): "I think I owe her one, too."

Kiku said he had purchased her services and when he made a motion towards the bag he'd given to her Violet grabbed it out of her hands and looked it over. Green let her take the bag without a fight, though she looked worried as the groceries she had already dropped once made a sudden lurch as though to drop again. A moment later Violet shoved the bag back into her free arm and she took it back without complaint, her eyes downcast. Violet was a whirlwind in human form and there was no doubt Kiku seemed to like her. With her around though, a constant reminder of Father, she found herself retreating back into her usual shell. Anything she said, anything she did now could get back to Father.
Violet finally let loose their arms and Green took hers back immediately to wrap around the grocery bag and hug it to her chest. Kiku said he had a story for the right ears, and Violet said that the right ears had found them and did some of her magic to pull out a journal form her bag and transmute a hairpin into an elaborately feathered quill. Violet was never one to do things without a flourish. Violet said it seemed that she, 'Greenie' had earned her paycheck but then she also added that perhaps she owed her one. Green hoped that meant what she thought it meant, but she could never be sure with Violet. "I do my best," she responded. "Mr. Gouken, Violet is the woman I know who works for the Tablet." She realized she had not said it out loud yet, and wasn't sure if Kiku had figured it out.

Kiku had no idea what a ‘La Cheri’ was, nor did he want to be the sort of person who knew what a ‘La Cheri’ was, but he thought it would be childish to protest that he had no idea what sort of gift he ‘bought’ for Green – he just accepted it. Even though he thought that ‘La Cheri’ was a terrible brand name, he mentally conceded that he was probably not the best judge of what made a good bag name.
Green told Kiku that Violet was the person that she had known who worked at The Tablet, and Kiku was elated. He wasn’t sure how much further the actual building was, but he was bored of walking. Not that Green wasn’t good company, but Kiku did have a reason to be in District III. He needed to tell the world about Ichabod.
Violet had some sort of magic purple writing tool that reminded Kiku of Rose’s floating crystal ball, though Violet seemed to be the furthest possible thing from Rose. He hoped that Violet would at least be as fun. “Is that so?” Kiku said, responding to Green with a smile. “Well then, you have performed beautifully.” He was really thankful to have run into Green, the delightfully peculiar girl.
“Is there somewhere we can go, Vi? This story is… potentially very sensitive information. Does the name Ichabod mean anything to you?”

Oh Green. The girl was so adorable. She could understand why Tom was protective of her, but really. The girl seemed to be doing perfectly fine on her own. Just a few hours out and about and the girl had already snagged the kind of strapping young man that made up some of Violet's favourite flavours. Adorable, interesting, bearded, with a love for nicknames. Violet quirked her brows at Green as Kiku complimented her, nudging her a little too hard with an elbow.
When Kiku asked about someone - something? somewhere? - named Ichabod, Violet scrunched up her face in thought. "Hm, Ichabod?" She traced a finger over her lips as she thought, and then snapped her fingers as if remembering something: "I do." It wasn't a lie, necessarily. The name Ichabod meant something like No Glory and was the kind of horribly shitty name that some parents would give to children born out of wedlock, particularly if that non-wedlock consummation was extramarital. However, she didn't know it's specific meaning in Kiku's world -- but she would find out. First, she needed to make sure he wouldn't tell anyone else.
"We can go to my apartment. It's a protected area, promise," She winked at Kiku and then turned back to Green, "Got time to join us, Greenie?"
