Yes. There it was. Tom had gotten a rise out of him. It was small, the way Woodrow's face shifted; it was small, the answer he gave... But it was forward movement. Not only that, but it was damn good news that Woodrow provided him. Blue was alive. Tom could still find her, fix her, control her. He wouldn't accept the failure as it stood, and he was getting closer to feeling sure that Woodrow would support that particular success. The man, Tom was discovering more and more, was as twisted and evil as the worst of the criminals he sought.
I see you, Mark. The real you.
"He's dead. Old age, from what I hear... I also hear that Artavia used that as an opportunity to clean their records on him. Their copies, anyway," Tom took his drink again, knowing that Woodrow would be fervent over the statement. Yes, that was it. That was the scent to lead Woodrow away from Tom's trail, and onto Artavia's. Evidence.

[attr="class","mwoody5"]"Their copies?" Woodrow was quick to jump on the statement. He wanted to knock the drink right out of Tom's hand as the man smugly sipped from it, the aasimar knowing full well that the movement was practiced, was certain, was solely intended to flare Woodrow's appetite. Woodrow wanted to do it for many reasons, but none were more important than what Tom had, so he stilled his hand before it could leave his lap.
"Then I shall assume you have proven your wit yet again by maintaining stringent copies for yourself," Was what he said in place of the violence he wanted to enact. The words would have been too saccharine, too complimentary if Woodrow hadn't stated it with a dripping marinade of acidity. He was almost saying to Tom: You have trapped them, as you have trapped me, and he wanted Tom to believe that was just it - even though Woodrow knew he was no longer trapped. No, the more he could bait Tom into believing that Woodrow had surrendered, the better it would be when Woodrow betrayed him.
"I should hope these copies have proof of their legitimacy?"

This was a game. Tom always won games - even if he needed to change the rules - and he would win this one, too. He would get Woodrow hook, line, and sinker.
Hook-- I am a mere pawn in a grander scheme than you could imagine.
Woodrow wanted to believe this more than it was true, Tom suspected. He wanted to view Tom as weak, as beatable. Woodrow saw himself a paragon of all masculine virtue, and he would devour the opportunity to chalk this up as a win for himself. To be the alpha male between them. Tom would allow him - for now.
Line-- The Artavian government is responsible for war crimes.
Perhaps Tom had not yet wanted to play this card, perhaps he had wanted to maintain some sense of nationalism for a little longer. He couldn't help but admit, however, the thought of Artavia taking the fall for everything was tantalizing -- tantalizing, and ever closer. It was all the better that the SSPB having control in Artavia would give him absolute freedom in his work.
Sinker-- I have the files.
And Tom would reel Woodrow in. "Of course," Tom responded, finishing his drink with a long drag, "Would you care to examine them, my Lord?"
Checkmate, Mark, Tom thought, I win.

[attr="class","mwoody5"]Woodrow's only reaction to Tom's offer was a sharp inhale through his teeth. If the proof was there - beyond the questionable statement of Dunn - he would receive it on a silver platter. If the information was as good as Tom let on - and it had to be, if Dunn wanted to live - Woodrow would have Artavia on a silver platter. Everything had fallen back into place, and Woodrow quickly began to sort through his new plan.
He would finish out the festival, and locate the three criminals. The ajatar would be executed in Aissic, with blessing from Queen Nickell. Vincent would be returned to Submiere, and Woodrow would permit one of his best 'interrogators' access to him, as a message more than anything. Perhaps, if he felt truly vindictive, he would gift Vincent to Tom as appreciation for his cooperation. If not, Vincent would eventually be hung. Tehodis would also be returned to Submiere, imprisoned for long enough to weaken her annoyingly stubborn resolve, to be released to his custody only when he was ready to dispose of Tom.
Come the new year, he would travel to Artavia with Dunn, and examine every shred of evidence the man had. It would be enough - Woodrow already decided, choosing to believe Tom for now - it would be enough, and he would spring upon the council with it, and with Dunn. They would be forced to give in to his demands, and he would have Artavia. He would have Artavia, and Aurcaele, and Vieri - all of Celestia would be his.
And then the moment - the very moment - that Artavia was properly secured, he would finally turn on Dunn himself. The man would be arrested under the law of the SSPB, and Woodrow would arrange for the grandest of hangings. Pelagia could attend, in honour of the victims from Aurcaele; and Tehodis would be his guest of honour. His own hand would wring the lever, and he would pull. Tom would die, and Woodrow would be a world renowned hero once more.
Woodrow smiled congenially at Tom, not needing to force it as his plans ran rampant through his mind. He grabbed the bottle and poured Tom another drink, meeting eyes with the Doctor to tell him: "We have so much more to talk about, Doctor."

Kiku did as he was told, and Vincent took to the helm of their little raft, determining their safest route for navigation. There was much to be said between the three of them. About Endless. About Blue. About Kiku's mother. About the three of them. It was more than they could manage as their adrenaline began to ebb away as quickly as the Eastwind disappeared into the night.
Yes, there was plenty to say, but these seas weren't quite the place. Not yet. They would find their way to a shore, earn passage to Artavia -- and get as far away from Markus Woodrow and Thomas Dunn and The Noble Eastwind as they could. Then, and only then -- and finally then -- they could talk.
