Beneath Vanya's Tower
T
he Winter Storm was likely Sialarvanya's least favourite month.
Not only was it cold in Rielcia - which reminded her far too much of 'home' and 'family'... But that's all anyone cared about. It was the season to forgive those of your blood (familial or covenant) for their bad influences on your life and make nice. Everyone was far too concerned with righting the wrongs of this plane - they had no interest in visiting others. Which meant that Sialarvanya was not only bored, but she was also annoyed. Her family was almost all dead, but the ones who still lived enjoyed taking time out of their month to send Sialarvanya missives begging for her to return; to visit the graves of their lost loved ones; to gain forgiveness for abandoning them.
Bah humbug.
No, she would not return. She would not make nice. She would sit beneath her tower on a conjured, cushioned chair; before a conjured, linened table; with a conjured, porcelain teaset; wrapped in a conjured, fur cloak. This would show them, She thought, as she sipped away at the spiced tea she drank, This would show them just how unfortunate they are to be evokers and necromancers. How unfortunate they were to refuse my power. Hmph. She would pretend to be having a perfectly lovely afternoon. Though, she had to admit... It was a little lonely.
Perhaps she could hope for someone to stumble upon her. To wonder what she was doing having a tea party in the snow. Or even better, someone could be looking for her. Someone who wanted one of her charms, or her services. Better even then that, perhaps her love would come calling? She knew that the woman would be busy... But seeing her face appear from the snowy treeline -- now that would be something.
OOC: Choose any date you like within The Winter Storm! Her availability is wide open.
The Winter Storm had never symbolized much to Aod. Even as a child it hadn't been significant except that it was when the year truly became cold. This was it's coldest, he thought. Though perhaps he thought that about all the months it snowed. Needless to say, it was his least favorite weather. And yet the night before had found him caught on the road at night, gust of snow picking up into a proper storm. So heh ad beeded down as best he could to wait it out.
He wouldn't deny that the snow capped trees held a kind of beauty. He wasn't blind to it. The flame-touched simply couldn't find the energy to marvel at the strange colors that played through the typically white drifts. The sky was perfect this morning, but the sun shown down coldly. There was no heat in it's touch. As if he in turn shunned the sun for it's lack of warmth, Aodfhin had muffled himself in ash and smoke, swathed in layers of cloak and scarf. Even his brilliant hair was covered beneath a turn of the scarf and a close drawn hood. In stark contrast, his hands were gloved in white leather, only slightly discolored from age and wear.
A shift of movement, not more than a shadow passing oddly beneath the trees, broke him from his revery. For a brief moment he caught a glimpse of an equine form as pearlescent as the snow. Dark eyes regarded him for a long moment before the regal head turned away, the sunlight striking the horn for a brief moment and shattering into a hundred nameless colors. Aodfhin followed without thinking. When was the last time he had seen a unicorn? Before he left Liesdro, assuredly. There had been a small herd that passed near his home from time to time and as a child he had watched them, fascinated. He'd never been so close before though.
He passed beneath the shade of the trees and into denser and denser woods. He lost sight of the beast but moved on a bit further, hoping to catch another glimpse. There- a snort and the pawing of a hoof rasping on the leaf litter covered here only by a thin layer of frost. He broke through a thicket and found himself not more than an arm's length from his quarry.
Funny, he never realized how big they were before.
Aodfhin only had a moment to register the two smaller equine shapes over the unicorn's shoulder before it reared, lashing out with hooves that shone like silver. Or steel. Prudently, he fled. The cold air tried to choke in his throat and freeze his lungs as he forced lethargic muscles into action, spurred on by the sounds of the beast charging after him. Beyond that and the roar of his own breath he could hear nothing else. He thought he saw the undrerbrush clearing ahead and put on a fresh burst of speed, hoping it was the road he'd left.
The snow was heavier on the edge of the clearing and as he lunged out of the treeline something hidden beneath the crust caught his foot, sending him tumbling head over heels through the fresh powder. Still in the shadows of the trees the unicorn trotted to a stop and gave a low sound that Aodfhin would later swear was laughter, or whatever the equine equivalent was. It dissappeared back into the woods, leaving Aodfhin shivering and swearing as the snow caked on his clothes began to melt from his excessive bodyheat.

anya had heard Aodfhin and the Unicorn's chase long before it reached her clearing. One of the benefits of blindness, she supposed, if you could call it that. She had sighed, putting down her teacup and standing from the cushion on the snowy ground. She brushed her fur cloak clear of snow and conjured a wind to blow herself a more walkable path towards where the noises would likely erupt. When Aodfhin crashed through, she was standing just a few feet away from his head, smiling at the warmth his body offered. An embodiment.
"What on Fortuna were you planning to do with that poor creature to find it so desperately riled?" Vanya asked with a small tilt of her head, the bangles on her horn jingling lightly. She might have offered a hand, but her fingertips seethed with the memory of the plane of fire, and she had no interest in experiencing that white hot glow once more. For all she could hear, he could be made of magma. Not waiting for an answer, she turned herself completely around and began to walk back to her teatable in the shadow of her tower, speaking once more: "You should have come sooner."

o... OOC I think Aodfhin has left the site. Anyone else want to join this thread? I've changed it to open. You can respond to my first post if you wish. (:

3rd of the Winter Storm~
Ah, Rielcia! Land of magic and mysticism galore! Full of unexplored twists and turns! Fantastic sights! Breathtaking illusions! Confusing illusions! Illusions that get you goddamn bloody lost!
So that was Cherry at the moment.
To be honest, she was starting to panic a little, because she was by now already very late for the meeting she had scheduled; she was supposed to be meeting with one of the head aides to the Supreme, of all people! It was a very important day for business. There was to be some hullballoo event in the coming weeks, and they had chosen La Cherie to design specially-made outfits for the Supreme and his family to wear. Honestly there were fewer honors a tailor could look for than to have a royal wear your outfits!
So imagine Cherry's dismay when a short detour she'd taken earlier (just to take a look, she assured her guide, it'll only take a minute, relax, we have plenty of time!), wound up getting her turned around in the city limits. And then when she tried to find the right street, she decided to follow a line of trees she just knew she saw earlier while walking around, but whoops! Those trees were fake and just led her into a path she didn't recognize. And from there it just. Kept. Happening.
It was like her every attempt to get back to where she was supposed to be just took her further away! How did people in this bloody country ever figure out where they were???
She was more or less ready to call it quits. By now, she was already far too late for the Supreme to even consider seeing her. They probably thought the dumb designer had stood them up and missed her opportunity forever. Cherry just wanted to get back home. As she moped her way through some pretty, multicolored trees, though, she happened upon a clearing where she could see a tower. The snow that was mostly caught on the branches overhead the paths Cherry had been traipsing was much more visible here, where it laid plainly in a thin blanket across the grass, an open view of the sky above it. The tower looked... odd. Incomplete? It was like it had been torn right out of a castle and just set aside as it was. She wondered if maybe this was another of the land's natural illusions, or if nature had finally decided to stop playing tricks on her eyes.
Curiously, she stepped out into the clearing, humming and looking around. Did someone live in that tower, she wondered? As she grew closer to it, though, she became aware of the presence of a woman. Cherry gasped happily and broke into a run, her cozy (and fashionable!) snow boots making the run easy. She approached quickly, her snowflake earrings jingling about as she stopped shy of the woman's table, where a lovely tea set was visible.
"Hi! Are you an actual person? Like a real live person? Not an illusion, right? Because I'm like, very lost."
The woman was quite possibly one of most interesting people she'd ever seen. Great curling horns adorned with decoration, pink-hued skin with hair to match, a commanding air of regality and nonchalance, and a swishing tail. Also, her furs just looked incredible. Cherry had never seen a more gorgeous Tiefling than this woman.

anya had heard the girl long before she'd approached. It had circled her, in fact. Crunching snow, muttered frustrations. The more the girl stepped, the more the steps sounded... Angry. Noticing these things was perhaps one of the benefits of blindness - if one could label anything of this curse a 'benefit'. She was unconcerned at first (many people found themselves lost in Rielcia), and then annoyed (it was so loud, couldn't they go and get lost somewhere else?), and then concerned (what if they were coming for her?)
With a frustrated sigh, she put her teacup down, and followed the noises with her head. Her hands drifted under the table and glowed with a golden magic, preparing a spell should her final emotion be the most accurate. As she prepared for the worst, the footsteps quickened to a run, and an almost familiar jingling filled the air, followed by a completely unfamiliar voice. A woman, wearing earrings, proper footwear - and she was either desperately lost, or a fine actress.
The magic on Vanya's right hand dissipated, and she raised it back to her teacup, taking a slow sip as the girl panicked. When her plea ended, Vanya opened her eyes towards where the sound had stopped and pretended as though she were observing who had stumbled into her clearing. She obviously didn't know who Vanya was if she was lost, despite very clearly standing in the only place in Rielcia that really mattered, which was quite the embarrassment for the girl. Cute, almost.
"Not an illusion, no," Vanya finally offered a smile, a little malice tracing the edges of her lips as she did so, and with a subtle tipping of her tea, a flock of glowing gold and pink butterflies appeared to swarm around the area that Vanya approximated the girl was in, soft wings kissing at her face wherever they managed to touch her. "And neither are they." Vanya flicked her hand again and the butterflies swooped under Cherry, pulling her towards the table, and allowing Vanya to control precisely where Cherry was. It was much easier to pretend you could see when you chose where what you were looking at was.
When Cherry was close enough, Vanya tilted her head to appraise the girl and then conjured a second cup, already full of steaming tea. A butterfly flew down and picked up the cup with an unnatural strength, and placed it into Cherry's hand. With tea in hand, Vanya offered another smile, "Where are you lost from, little lamb?"

Ho. Ly. Crap.
This chick was so cool!!!
When Cherry approached in the desperate hope that his was an actual woman and not an illusion, she had NOT expected to be answered with a swarm of butterflies surrounding her and pulling her closer, making a seat for her in midair, and bringing her a cup of tea. And here was this gorgeous Tiefling woman, sitting there in graceful repose, sipping tea as though this all just standard fare, and holy crap, this was the coolest person Cherry had ever met, hands down.
"I'm from Niseca!" she answered enthusiastically, after she had had an acceptable moment to marvel in awe. She took a sip of her tea and hummed in delight. "And this is awesome tea, by the way. Thank you! I was getting pretty cold."
She looked around again, taking in her surroundings a little more now that she was sure they weren't just an illusion, and found that she really appreciated the unique look of that tower. And also the butterflies. The pink butterflies that were somehow sustaining her weight remarkably well and flapping their wings gently against her face. "Oh!" she said, remembering that she should probably explain herself a little more to her odd host. "I was supposed to be heading towards the palace to meet the Supreme today - I'm a fashion designer, and his people contacted me about making some new clothes for him - but I... well, I chased the white rabbit down the rabbit hole, I suppose! And now I'm lost in wonderland."
Tags: OOC Notes: So yes, Alice in Wonderland reference, even though that story probably doesn't exist in Fortuna, but let's roll with it lol. Cherry is just a walking force of meta-breaking.

ell, she was a pleasant guest, at least. Vanya could do much worse. She had a brief tingling of deja vu, of a day where this meeting had gone completely differently. A burning man breaking through the wood, chased by a unicorn... She perked her ear as if to hear his sounds, but there was only the sweet woman before her. A woman who'd had much to do today.
Didn't they all?
Still, the Supreme was a far more notable thing to be doing than most lost souls might be ambling towards, and so Vanya was going to be kind. Or at least, kinder than usual. "Mordecai himself? Well, aren't you the unique snowflake here in the storm. And yet, like all the others-" She tsked vaguely, waving her hand to permit her flock of familiars to gently place this girl opposite her at the table, "You've gotten yourself tricked. Miynie is playful enough with those of us who call Wonderland home, but outsiders, well, she's downright cruel in her tricks. Lucky for you to have found me, lucky for me to live in such an inconvenient location. Even the most inconvenient location finds itself convenient on the hundredth go round. Might you still have time to not be indecently late, my dear?"
