At first, he thought that Pelagia was actually letting him go. He visibly relaxed, and smiled as she passed by, managing to stutter a thanks. If he knew Pelagia as well as he knew Xanthe, he would have known not to believe it. As she left the room, he heard the command. It wasn't threatening in tone, but in made Ellis' whole body clench, and a shiver run up his spine. His plans for the night were intended to not be short. But he also didn't want to wake Pelagia up from her slumber, which would make things worse. He thought of just what she would do to him, and he was reminded of the window in her chambers.
He didn't even hear Feofil's words - if he said any - or notice as Ilithiya and he left. It was only as the door close that he was jolted out of his anxiety, and then Xanthe turned on him. Angry. Sad. A lot of emotions he never wanted her to feel. He translated her words as fast as he could, but he couldn't keep up with the speed she was throwing them. She was angry about him wanting to give her a surprise? Perhaps... It wasn't something Attonja did, but he didn't think it was wrong-- "Xanthe! N-n-no, I... No! I-i d-do tr-trust you, more... m-more than any o-one else. I-i only wanted--"
Oh fa lux'set se nasynx se Aurcaele, fa treyd'j xes tha uhnuoj se sad yi. This put everything together. He immediately cupped her cheeks and put his forehead to her's, doing his best to reassure her in a way he knew words couldn't. "Yi xaban luxs se dauba Atton," He finally said, his voice a whisper, "Fui yi v'dauta trel fa?"
Yi xaban luxs se dauba Atton - I never want to leave Atton. May I please show you?
Part of Xanthe wanted to pull away when Ellis reached for her, but she didn't. She wanted his reassurance. When their foreheads touched she relaxed a bit, still worried he was leaving but glad for the moment of closeness after feeling that he had pushed himself away from her earlier. But his words gave her pause, when he did speak. In a good way of course. When he said he never wanted to leave Atton, she pulled back and looked at him, replying, "Yi xaban luxs fa se pe." He asked if he could show her; what, she wasn't sure. "Emui," she consented, confused now that it was clear she had the wrong idea about things. She still didn't know what was actually going on, but at least Ellis had said he didn't want to leave.

Yi xaban luxs fa se pe - I never want you to go Emui - okay

He didn't want to break away from her, so he was glad that she had done it herself. He wanted to bring her close once more when she said she'd never want him to go, or perhaps wanted to bow at her generosity, fall to his knees and worship her -- but she had also consented to see what he had done. She looked confused rather than angry now, which was much more how Ellis would have preferred this situation. Mild confusion - hopefully followed by happiness. He just wanted to give her a bit of happiness after how hard the last week had been.
Smiling as reassuringly as he could muster, he held one her hands and opened the door, pulling her along gently. He hoped that the people he'd asked to help had done their part. If they hadn't well... It would still look nice, he had already made sure of that. But it wouldn't be particularly impressive.
He led her through the halls towards Feofil's room - but as she knew from earlier, it wasn't only Feofil's room. It was a door to someplace else. As they turned and faced the hall with the door, it was clear there was something strange. A table was set near the door. It wasn't long, but not short either. It looked like it might be able to sit four, maybe six people - but it was set for two. A beautiful linen fabric with a grey damask pattern was over the table, and candles were burning in a silver candle holder at its centre. He smiled when he saw this. Feofil had asked one of his men - Gabriel - to light them when he saw Erik storming the halls again. Ellis had thought it to be somewhat of a joke, but after Erik had left the room so quickly, he realized it was just the right thing to ask. The table's settings were finished with china plates, water glasses with ice and water (Feofil had asked one of his conjurer cooks to do that part), and wine glasses currently sitting empty.
"Ta?" He asked Xanthe as they approached. When they finally reached the table he let go of her hand, and pulled out one of the chairs, gesturing for her to sit, "Yi luxs'et se... Er... T'kem fa. U pohs."
Translations Ta? -> See? Yi luxs'et se... Er... T'kem fa. - I wanted to... (er)... Shock you. U pohs. -> A gift.

Xanthe let herself be led through the temple by Ellis, wondering all the while what was going on. They were going back towards Feofil's room, and when they turned the corner into the hallway with his door she saw that there was a table set up just outside of it. It was set with a beautiful, fancy-looking tablecloth, candles, the whole works. At first, she thought that Feofil was planning on having dinner with someone and she was about to make a comment about it, but Ellis pointed it out and she realized it was for them. It looked completely unlike an Attonian dinner setup, and even unlike the other dinners she had with the peacekeepers while at the temple. This looked special.
Ellis said it was a gift, and that he wanted to... shock her? That wasn't the right word but she could figure out his meaning easily enough. And it was a surprise. Was that why he was wearing different clothes? Or maybe he really had just changed because his other ones were bloodied. She admired the fine china and smiled softly. "It is beautiful," she said, and took the seat that Ellis had pulled out for her. "Why?" She did not think it was Ellis who should be giving her a gift, but her giving Ellis something in return for his many sacrifices.

She seemed pleased, which he liked... But at the same time, she seemed confused still. It wasn't exactly the reaction he had wanted. Why, she wanted to know. Why. How could she not know why? How could he explain it?
"Fuxi nautex'z," He finally said, nodding in agreement with his own statement, "Yi qu'xes ifupoxa rel se sad saf ud... Uhsan la fas los Feofil, yi qeej ta sus fa qeej xes thaun se tha ului h'nef Atton. Fa leej xaban ta fi Aurcaele... Thyt yi luxs'et se truna os los fa." He opened Feofil's door, which still did not show Feofil's room. Instead, the room was white, iron, curtained. At the perfect vantage point from the door was a large window that looked out onto a single pink-tinged green willow tree, sitting in a large circular planter, and surrounded by soft clouds. He looked nervously from the view back to Xanthe, biting his lip before speaking again, "Sot ot fi refa. Sot ot Aurcaele."
Translation Fuxi nautex'z. -> Many reasons. Yi qu'xes ifupoxa rel se sad saf ud... -> I cannot imagine how to explain/tell them all... Uhsan la fas los Feofil, yi qeej ta sus fa qeej xes thaun se tha ului h'nef Atton. -> After we met with Feofil, I could see that you could not bear to be away from Atton. Fa leej xaban ta fi Aurcaele... Thyt yi luxs'et se truna os los fa. -> You would never see my Aurcaele... But I wanted to share it with you. Sot ot fi refa. Sot ot Aurcaele. -> This is my home. This is Aurcaele.

Ellis answered her question by saying that there were many reasons, and he couldn't begin to list them all. It was kind of him to say and was very flattering, but she felt he perhaps was forgetting how much he had done, and how little she actually deserved this token of appreciation. She decided then she would need to find a way to express that to Ellis. To give him her own token of appreciation for everything he had done.
The reason for the location of the table was revealed when Ellis began speaking, saying he wanted to share Aurcaele with her, and he opened the door to reveal what had been hidden behind it earlier when Feofil had closed the door so quickly. The room was very different than Foefil's, with airy curtains and filled with light colours and a large window showing a willow tree, a tree which she recognized from Ellis drawing it on the back of some papers from days ago. It was beautiful, and she wanted to go into the room and go outside and touch the tree, but she also recalled too vividly what it had felt like the last time she had entered the room to elsewhere, and she wasn't sure now was a good time to test it out again in her weakened state. But her face held a look of awe, and she smiled at Ellis as he introduced her to his home.
"Thank you, Ellis," she said in his language. "I wish I could see it all," she said in her own.

He watched her face carefully as he revealed the room, a part of his horrified that she would be unimpressed, or worse - disgusted. But as he revealed it, and as she heard it's name, and as she saw the tree, her face turned to something he wasn't sure he'd seen on her face before. It was a beautiful look, and the smile ensured him that it was a good one, too.
"Yi qe," The thought was a tad solemn, but he didn't want that to be the mood of this surprise. No, they had just secured the beginnings of peace for Atton, and they had survived the brutal attack of Kav'nok and his warriors, and they were together in front of a door that somehow lead to his own home. This was not the time for solemn thoughts of would bes, could bes, or maybes -- it was time for him to share something he loved. He knelt before her chair and looked up at her, somehow always feeling this to be a more "right" position to look upon her from, and took her cheek in his hand, "Thys sot ot v'daxsi hen yi."
Standing once more he held up a finger as if to tell her to wait, and then took a breath before passing into the room. The light hit him differently there. It wasn't torchlight he stood by now, it was some kind of white glow. It made him look more pale, made his shirt look a bit more blue, and everything a bit more distant. He disappeared from view for a few moments, a woman's voice coming from some place that Xanthe couldn't see. The voice spoke words that seemed unfamiliar, but she sounded happy. Eager, perhaps. Ellis' voice responded in the same different language (though he seemed to stutter in it, just as he stuttered in Common), seeming nervous, and like he wanted to ensure the other voice did not do whatever it wanted to do.
After a few moments of happy-sounding arguments, Ellis reappeared holding a china platter with two hand-painted bowls atop them. He took another deep breath and passed through the door, the light of him changing again, and he set down the platter on the table. The bowls were filled with a steaming, sweet-smelling dish that had a distinct apple scent. In the bowl, the apples were clearly mixed with some kind of dark bread, and a creamy sauce had been drizzled over the top. "A-Apfel...Apfelbettelmann," He said, as he pulled two spoons from his pocket and put one in each. The dish was an Aurcaeli dessert, one of Ellis' favourites, which mixed apple, currants, cinnamon and pumpernickel. What he didn't realize until he was bringing it out, was that had only made one dish for tonight that wasn't a dessert... He supposed he'd been desperate for their sweetness. He flushed as he realized this, and blushed a little: "Yi nadoga xel yi fuja fuxi t'lasz... S-sorry." He sat, and then took the spoon and broke into the dessert to show her what to do, hoping that it wouldn't be too strange for her.
Translations Yi qe -> Me too Thys sot ot axy'h hen yi -> But this is enough (plenty) for me. Yi nadoga xel yi fuja fuxi t'lasz. -> I realize now I made many sweets.
Ellis knelt in front of her and cupped her cheek in his hand, and she smiled down at him as he said that this was enough. She hoped that another day she might be able to go through the door, to look out the window, to touch the willow tree and feel its life like the life in her own trees. Maybe some day.
Ellis stood and motioned for her to wait there, then went into the room and disappeared from sight. She heard the voice again, the voice from earlier speaking words unfamiliar to her in either language she knew, and Ellis spoke back in the same language. He seemed to be quite the language sponge, it seemed, but she noted perhaps a little proudly that Attonian seemed to be the only one he spoke without a stutter.
After a brief exchange Ellis reappeared with bowls. As he came back into the temple the smell of his food wafted over and she breathed it in. It smelled incredibly delicious, and she said as much as Ellis set it down. Ellis said a word then that she didn't understand at all, and she chuckled and shook her head to indicate she had no idea what he just said. When he sat down he seemed embarrassed and said he had made a lot of sweets. He took his spoon and dug into the food, and she did as well though before she ate any she paused. She had a few questions, but decided on one to ask first. "You made this?"

He nodded, a little nervous. She hadn’t tasted it, and was already questioning its origin. It was good, he knew it was. He had made it with his mom, who had taught him how to make it way back when, and it was his favourite. She had to like it.
“Y-yes,” He managed, his mouth suddenly too dry to even attempt his bite. He needed to know she didn’t hate it. He didn’t want to fail at this.
She smiled at him when he said he had made it. There was so much about him she didn't know, including that apparently Attonian was his third language and that he could cook. Very well, if the smell was any indication. He looked a little nervous so she took her bite of afflesomethingsomething and chewed it thoughtfully. She would admit that Attonians didn't have much for sweet desserts, but this was very delicious. "Mmm," she hummed while she chewed, and afterward smiled again. "Bani peej!" she declared decisively. Yi leyd'j aus os ud, thys leyd'j ruba xe nef hen sra nats!" She did take more than her small bite though, and put a chunk of the dessert onto her plate. "L're ot s'ra lefux yi raunj?"

Very good! I would eat it all, but would have no room for the rest! Who is the woman I heard?
