[attr="class","h1"]The Uhane Holo
[attr="class","body"]The island of Kaikoa is not a place that many can say they have seen. It is situated in the seas to the south of Submiere, and while it can be clearly seen from ships passing by, it is surrounded by massive whirlpools, where it is said that the God of Dance Wyghal lives. These whirlpools act as protection to the people of Kaikoa, and have permitted themselves to have recognized independance by the Crown of Submiere.
Kaikoa has a deep history, one which colours much of the way Submiere exists in modern times. While the Sultan of Submiere is chosen through a violent olympic challenge that selects the strongest warrior in all the lands, in Kaikoa they choose their Chief in an impressive competition of its own. Kaikoa sheds far less blood, however. When a Chief realizes that their time is coming to an end, they announce the beginning of The Uhane Holo, a time when all Kaikoan youths are expected to go out into the world of Fortuna.
While out in the world, the youths are to travel to all locations that previous Chiefs have held dear, as marked on impressive maps offered to them. They goal is to ensure that the new Chief is worldly, and wise, and that they have experienced all that the world has to offer, making them the best Chief possible. In addition, the youths must find a new location to add to the list, the one that shall make them a Wiser, Stronger, Better Chief than the previous. As time goes on, this list of locations grows and grows, making each subsequent Uhane Holo more challenging than the last, and ensuring that the Kaikoan people are stronger with each generation.
Upon the 2nd of the Shared Mind the Kaikoan Chief announced that his time was drawing near its end, and marked the beginning of the next Uhane Holo. One of the Kaikoan Youths is to become the next Chief - but who shall succeed? Who shall visit all ancestral locations and return to Kaikoa before the others? Who will prove that they are indeed the Wisest, Strongest, and Best leader Kaikoa can ask for?
Ancestral Locations
There are a large number of ancestral locations. None have been predetermined, so when you have chosen some landmark that will act as one, please post here with a quick logline about which Chief chose that place and why! Add some colour to the quest.
Violence is Not the Way
The way of Kaikoa is not particularly violent. They do not wish for the youths to kill each other - though it has certainly occurred in the past, and they have in fact even had a killer as their chief for want of other options, but it is not the intent. The intent of the challenge is to gain knowledge and wisdom.
That said, friendships have been known to dissolve during the Uhane Holo, the desire to become Chief growing stronger in each competitor as they visit each ancestral location and connect with their honoured past. It is very likely that your competitor has had an ancestor who was chief at some point. What location was most important to them?
Aasimar of Wyghal
Kaikoa was founded by a group that were chosen all as Avatars of Wyghal. Their children were all born aasimar, of course, and as the blood of an aasimar is the strongest of all, the line has continued. In this day, all but the spouses of Kaikoan natives that were found outside in the rest of Fortuna are aasimar. All children born on Kaikoan soil are aasimar of Wyghal.
Aasimar of Wyghal have copper-toned skin, and are somewhat taller than, but otherwise look quite similar to humans. Their Celestial Trademark is relegated to them by Wyghal’s Dance. The Dance is quite what it sounds - a spiritual dance that accesses a deeper connection to their God. While all members of Kaikoa participate in this tradition of dance, only when one has mastered The Dance and become spiritually attuned to their path do they attain Wyghal’s power.
Wyghal’s power allows for the aasimar to use The Dance to shapeshift into a totem animal, which is tied to their state of being. Totem animals seem permanent, though there have been one or two recorded incidences of the Totem Animal changing based on the choices of the aasimar. In addition, in times of extreme hardship or stress, there has been seen the occasion where a Totem Animal will temporarily transform into a stronger beast - a beast from the mists. The only other recorded event where a Totem Animal has been a Mysterious Beast is in the form of the Chiefs of Kaikoa. Upon ascending to chieftaincy and communing with Wyghal, the Chief’s totem animal is forever changed to a more powerful beast.

The village on Kaikoa is a permanent settlement of homes built from bamboo and leaves. Most homes have been protected against fire, and water rot by abjurers in the village. The village relies on hunting local game - especially boar - and fishing for survival.
The roles in Kaikoa are firm, and only change when Chieftancy becomes contested. If you are born the son of a cobbler, for example, you are expected to become a cobbler as well. Despite this, all people in Kaikoa are treated with equal importance. While some roles are granted more reverence - mystics, priests, guards, and the Chief being name among these - not a single person in Kaikoa is viewed as Less Than. All of the village is extremely well educated, and all of the village see each role as necessary for a fully functioning society. - Ancestral Locations

People
- Chief Manaoki
The current chief, Manaoki, is an aggressive, and proud woman who has lead Kaikoa with a strength unmatched by many. While not particularly violent, the chief has an imposing stature and personality that leaves many feeling intimidated by her presence. This had worked in the chief’s favour as she prefers to work alone, using her wisdom and strength to solve the village’s problems.
Despite her effectiveness as Chief, the village council has been long urging her to announce the end of her chieftaincy, hoping that the new Chief would be more open to listening to the council. The Chief was always too proud, however, and waited until she grew ill before making the announcement.
In her youth, the Chief had mastered the Dance of Air, and revealed a totem of a falcon. Upon ascending to chieftaincy and communing with Wyghal, her totem changed to reflect her new power, and became a Griffon with the front of a falcon, and the body of jaguar. - Halulahi
Halulahi - Kailani
Kailani - Kapue'o
Kapueo - Cari Oceana
Cari Oceana. A nymph whom Halulahi believes is his Aumakua -- or spirit guide.
