When there's nothing left to burn, hear the silence
Freedom and choice, both go hand and hand but not given the same merits in life they were valuable but not so valuable as purpose whatever that purpose was. All she ever wished for was to be more and what ever that more was wasn’t what ever this is. Sitting in a tavern bidding time after finding nothing to gain funds from. Once she didn’t have the freedom or choice but there was purpose, the arena as sick as it was and cyclical as it became to fight and win and be allowed to live another day there wasn’t a time where there wasn’t purpose to it. Shallow it was but it was a purpose to carry on towards. Now that she was out and here and free to choose which roads to take as long as she could afford it that value to freedom was dwindling. Why this place? Why the jungle where the air was thick with wet and walking outside in the streets gave away her nature with the steam rising as it hit her skin. Perhaps it was because that was where the roads had lead her thus far. The taverns were always welcoming to the hungry tired and bored.
The crowds were thick today and so was the tavern, the notice board asking for help was empty of things she had the patience and skill to do. Alas she seemed to only have the skill to fight and burn and the only ones looking for that were merchants. Hunger took it’s hold so found herself in a booth alone with the food and drink to tide the time over.
Biding time silently listening in on the surroundings untill the server asked if it was ok to share the table. A new customer had come in and the empty spot across her in the booth was the only place left to sit. A moment of thought crossed her mind to keep her isolated peace but there was no reason for that. The ok was given and the silence stayed a bit while the other settled.
Have you ever smelt rotten flesh? Pretty repugnant. Now imagine rotten flesh that has been boiling in the sun. Enough to make a Hyposmiac gag. Sadly despite being around them daily Eroks sense of smell had not grown accustomed to the odor yet. Leaving the warm lands could not happen soon enough but Zerebus made it clear that the tree hugging folks of the surrounding area needed a lesson in life and death.

So for the past two weeks Erok and his clan had been acquiring new members, both living and dead. Most were weary with his words of eternal life but people will change their tone quickly when you tell them exactly what they want to hear. After this latest excursion his cult was now up to nearly 50 followers, the newbies who were all now making their way back to Muerte had left the Orc as he settled on a tavern to make one last attempt at "salvation"
[break]
From the outside the tavern seemed lively and packed to the brim, just like everywhere in this green nightmare. Pulling his brown cloth cloak tighter to him in an attempt to hide his orcish features Erok silently made his way in. Pubs were always a strange place to him, to much drinking with not enough fighting.
[break]
Scanning the room from the doorway he noted people everywhere but they all looked far to content or drunk to be converted. Alas a young woman sat alone and conveniently at the only open seat. She had a look of confusion and angst across her face that could be read by a blind man at 100 meters, the perfect target!
[break]
Following the lead of the hostess Erok dropped heavy into the seat across from his new target and with a heavily toothed grin he exclaimed "Greetings tired one!" His tone was coated with honey and he did his best to slouch to make himself look less intimidating. "Care for a round?" Without waiting for an answer he signaled to the barkeep.

When there's nothing left to burn, hear the silence
It was the rather heavy sounding thump that made her even decide to glance at the new patron in the establishment. Someone else the humidity and heat wasn’t so fondly caressing. There was feint essence of festering death that came off them. Whatever they’d been doing wasn’t being so kind to them now, no need to point it out people did all sorts of things during their day. It wasn’t a new scent to her nose either it lingered in places of constant death no matter what anyone did to quell it, not pleasant but nothing could really be done about it.
Taking note of the heavy toothed greeting and the slouching, it was an attempt to be welcoming even though they were essentially the intruder of space being the last one in. The tall bulky imposing fellow in front of her eyes certainly looked like they could do a lot of damage oh that was rude, was that sizing up in her part? Ah old habits were dreadfully hard to kill and the last thing anyone would want in the tavern is a brawl. They were trying to keep the peace too, better do her part in that. Keeping a relaxed posture and reigning that back inside it’s crevice that it crawled out of. If anything it kept the situation equal, as if sending a message of her own brand of dominance in the area that no one was weak here. “Ah yes, tired… tired of a few things.” There was a slight pause eyeing the barkeep that came over with the round that was never even acknowledged. No need to deny generosity now then. “I guess a round wouldn’t hurt anyone.” There was a second pause in all that, the rush of the surroundings making the lingering silence less than silent. As if to break ice she’d remarked in comment. “You aren’t from here, most in here aren’t but you definitely didn’t start here.”
Taking a deep sip from his mead Erok looked over the young woman, she had sized the orc up as he got comfortable so it seemed only fair. She seemed on the edge but not irrational, just the way he liked his targets. Inner confusion is always looking for that hand from above showing them everything will be okay.
"No this land is far from my home but important work needs to be done in these parts." Vague answers were best until he knew what to expect. While Erok was not well educated he was no fool. Sprawling out a bit in his seat Erok relaxed hoping the fiery youngin' would too, while she was on guard convincing her to join would be....challenging.
Ordering two more rounds with a simple wave the orc eyed the full drink on the opposite side of the table. "Now tell me what is it that makes you weary child?"
When there's nothing left to burn, hear the silence
“Important works? That’s what everyone says even when they sweep dust.” It wasn’t to downplay anything that was trying to be noted in those words but it sort of enhanced the idea of the situation. Also signifying that at this moment the works was simply taking the rounds of mead and enjoying the tavern With how crowded it was, it was simpler to do that in the false peace of the stray booth. Also that in the edged on mind in this situation the other was only welcomed out of the given circumstance and that ideal could very well change. That was a rather shallow thought process but something about the situation made that feel necessary. The moment was reserved to the simplicity of the tavern at least for the moment. "How important can change with the winds."
Drawing the drink down while content, a soft hum and while her mind remained awake the rest of her soothed into the bench. Not to let herself leave too much to feeling of course but not feigning that she’d leave fate to outside controls.
“Well, one the journey here is pretty dreary. Putting up with the selfishness of merchants gives the coin but no pride behind earning it. Roads are long and go everywhere. The world is vast in size and possibility.” There ended the deep vague thought with a chuckle. "Vast and all in reach if you know what to do with it."
"One with your wit would do well with my establishment. Have you ever thought of joining something bigger then yourself, something that truly could impact the world? Not some small charity that pledges to make the world safer while lining their filthy pockets. No, something that will make the rich shudder and the poor powerful." Erok had to stop himself, getting to fiery now may scare his new friend away. He had a nasty habit of not being able to stop himself when he got on these rants. [break] The bartender delivered the second round of drinks and quickly made her way back behind the bar. Looking into his cup Erok pondered if his flock had made it home safely, these roads were indeed long and rough, especially when your a group of wandering undead. Hopefully they took his advice and stuck to the woods, animals seemed to ignore or run from the undead. Humans on the other hand always feared what they didn't understand. Which normally led to bloodshed. [break] Looking up from the cup he met the gaze of the woman "Do you ever wonder what your role in this world is?"
Admin Note: Just a reminder to you two that you guys should choose a date for this thread to take place during! Especially as Erok has a thread going on elsewhere in which he may get involved in a fight; keeping events organized chronologically is important!
When there's nothing left to burn, hear the silence
She leaned in, a bit intrigued with the other's show of passion for whatever he was trying to suggest. That something being big and crowd shuttering. Hell, it was something that she'd given the benefit of the doubt to even ponder such words. Someone of her stature, her nature and herself very aware of a very familiar reality of those words. To be part of something big, but the other's currently unknown name most likely very much attached to it. That much made the pondering falter. There was a sharp sigh and her posture straightened mostly to provide leverage to down the rest of that round. That wild impulse flashed for a moment before she put it down and finally began to explain. An amused chuckle escaped while she spoke up. "You don't even know who or what I am and yet I'm suited to aid in your actions?" There was a moment to relax some, she was definitely not trying to demean whatever it is or her own skills whatever purpose they'd play in their own desires. It was almost flattery. "Of course I desire to be more, who doesn't..." Well, she had always desired to be more.
"However, I've had my share of time with someone else's existence branded to my own... I know what my role is in this life....or what others saw my role as in this world." There was a second pause as she thought to word the next line. "It was fun to play with when it was all that was available." There was a harsh low hum. Waving for another round, figuring she'll need it to take in the responses. "What exactly are you offering to me? What exactly am I earning here?"

Leaning forward Erok put his large arms on the table, leaving his casual pose to something more aggressive, a brief look of disgust flashed across his face before he buried it and put on his toothy smile. "Do you really know your purpose or do you know the rules society has told you to follow? When's the last time you did something that was just for you? I don't mean taking a long bath or unwinding, I mean grabbing what you want with both hands and hold it so close to you the two of you formed into one?" He stopped himself before a full blown rant broke out.
Pausing to gather his thoughts he looked around the tavern and saw just what he expected, the daily drunks with no path, the poor laborers who chased a feeling of happiness in the bottom of their mug and the fools celebrating minuscule achievements. Pinching the bridge of his nose between two large gray fingers Erok tried to calm his mind and get his thoughts back in order.
"To answer your first question, I know you better then you think. Your a injured soul looking for a path and i'm simply trying to show you the way. I see a fire in you that could help me and mine." Picking up his newly replaced drink he slammed it down realizing how warm it seemed in this booth. "What your earning is a place among the gods!"
When there's nothing left to burn, hear the silence
“Says the one reeking of a lingering festering death.” That was muttered under her breath and then cast aside for the moment. Not every battleground required swords sometimes it could be fought with words and twisting tones and this was exactly what it was. Even if it wasn't supposed to be it was entertaining watching the stranger rile while their passion was taken as if it was like anything else. “It’s not society that showed me how to take what I want, life, glory, riches, approval. It was the guts of it. Of course, I’ve wrapped my hands around squeezing it and taking as my own. If I only followed what society wanted from me I wouldn’t be reaping your hospitality.” If a round of ale could be called hospitality.
Feria kept a sturdy posture, the other wasn’t pleased and she wouldn’t falter. They weren’t coming clean so she wouldn’t either. It was about give and take in this world, nothing was free not even cleansing boredom. Flattery was just that, it did nothing to grant her anything it seemed like common sense to want to know what she was being offered. Maybe that was just being stubborn maybe she just wanted to push her luck against something that could easily snap against her.
The was a head shake and a sigh. “Yeah, you don’t know me. Injured soul…. I wouldn’t call it that, I was given a chance to take the world I just need to know what to take, how to take it. Call it hungry. You can show me the way all you want but roads are such that I can always turn around and go back to where I came from. There are roads everywhere and they lead everywhere.” The fiery fiend continued, smirking slyly. “You’re right about the fire though.” It would help if she didn’t keep switching from leaving metaphors and being literal. “To return your question, have you ever done anything for yourself? Not for a god not for anyone except yours truly? Once you have a name other than your own attached to your purpose it isn’t truly your purpose you know. It's just orders as if it’s from a king even if it’s divine. Glory from a god and glory from a king sound very similar you know.” There was a long pause while she studied the other’s expressions. This was getting nowhere fast.
She leaned back into her seat then. “Let’s start from the beginning here, who exactly are you that you’re promising a place amongst the gods? I don’t care who the gods are I want to know who is sitting across from me stinking of the long dead making promises.” Her tone had sharpened into a purr then, it was no longer like a welcoming hearth. It was different kind of heat like the glare of a sun raising to noon.
