Early Evening 3rd of the Empty Lantern In the Streets of Teche ------------
“Nibbles! Niiiiiiiiiibbles!”
Ekahi lifted the lid to yet another rubbish bin and peered inside, only to huff when she found it empty. Even in the shadows of the alleyway the panthro’s keen eyes could see that there was no sign of ginger fur anywhere, and all her ears picked up were the sounds of the busy market street nearby, not meowing or the scrapping of claws.
Where was he!
Only earlier that day the panthro and her feline friend had left the Boneway together, after a late rising Ekahi discovered that all the immediate Shroud contracts in the area were already taken by other assassins in the hideout. Which was just awful. No contracts meant nothing to do, which meant boredom, which meant that she would work on her drawings, which always resulted in one of the other assassins complaining about her choice of wall or table or expensive tapestry to improve, which would then get her in trouble, which…honestly, was just a whole lot of dumb that the assassin wanted to avoid. So Ekahi had taken Nibbles out of town and into the alleyways of nearby Teche, and the two ended up playing a really fun game of hide and sneak for most of the day.
But then Nibbles disappeared!
Replacing the lid Ekahi gave one last glance around her before slinking toward the mouth of the alleyway. It was true that her friend was a great hider, but the assassin was a great finder! Not once before had it taken her so long to find the ginger tom, and even if he had found the most bestest hiding spot in the city, the cub knew Nibbles would have sniffed her out by now and come back. With the sun already beginning to drop in the sky, she was starting to worry.
A lot.
Pressing her small body against the cool stone wall of the alley the panthro peered into the adjoining street. Shoppers, errand runners, and, unfortunately, the occasional guard drifted past her blue eyes, but there were no cats to be seen among the stampede of legs. Not that finding any would be easy even for her with how busy the market always was. But Ekahi had to find Nibbles before it got dark. It would be more dangerous for her to roam the streets when all she had for company were guards, and not only that, but her friend risked getting hurt by some of the other nasty critters that she knew came out when the sun went down. Time was very much not on her side, so…maybe what the cub really needed now was another pair of eyes.
Taking a deep breath Ekahi pulled on the hood of her cloak and picked the most interesting, out-of-place looking individual she could find. With luck, the odder the person, the more likely it was that they were not from Dirys. Stepping out into the street the panthro then cut into the stream of moving bodies and stopped right in front of her target. Not only were the local, ultra-rich nobility and snotty merchants not exactly known for their generosity, but strangers to the city were far less likely to immediately call the guard on her, if past pickpocketing experience was any indication. After all, what could she say?
Tourists were suckers.
“Excuse me! Ex-excuse me! I was wondering if you’ve seen my friend anywhere? We were playing a game and now I can’t find him and it’s getting dark and I’m…I’m…I’m really worried about him. Could you help me find him? Please?”
Her eyes wide the cub stared up at the stranger and cupped her hands in front of her. Acting the part of the innocent child was as easy as breathing to Ekahi after so many years, but for the first time in perhaps a long time, the urgency in the assassin’s voice was more genuine than not.
She really needed to find her best friend.

Early Evening on the 3rd of The Empty Lantern, 5153 City of Teche
Endless had an odd sort of attachment to Dirys. When looked at objectively, there were many things wrong with the place, of course. Endless was well aware of this even before his recent... awakening, he supposed it could be called. Dirys was a hotbed of social injustice where the poor stayed poor, nobles ran the show, under the table slaving had not been stomped out, and Beastfolk were discriminated against. None of it was near to the scale of Muerte (where he'd never been and sort of never wanted to go, but feared he may someday have to), but it was still a mess. Endless had oft tried to turn a blind eye to it in his younger days spent here, but usually not to much success. He could seldom make himself stop dwelling on it, though simultaneously could never bring himself to do anything about it.
He knew now that that was probably Khades's fault. The deity who had supposedly chosen him, if it was all to be believed. This "gift" of his... it never let him live in blissful ignorance. If asked, Endless doubted he'd really want to do that anyway, but something about the fact that he had never really had a choice in the matter... it was still a bitter subject. He was still coming to grips with it.
Well, all of that aside, it didn't change the fact that despite all that was wrong with Dirys, Endless couldn't help but to like it. He had a number of fond memories here, after all. After he left Submiere, this had been the first place he'd wound up in. He'd found a number of things beautiful about the land's rocky valleys, the jewels that were a part of its makeup in places, and the rich sense of industry that reminded him of his original home. He also honed his power more in this land, feeling freedom when he'd fly unseen through the dark caves and tunnels out in the Diryn wilds. And it was here in Dirys, in the city of Gemarton, that Endless had discovered what his Ameth was, and what it was capable of.
Gemarton was where he was headed now. Right now, Endless had a mission; to find a way back to the Feywild, a way that would bypass Haelrin's ban on his reentry. If the old library in Gemarton had a book on the Ameth, a book that called Diassei a wicked deity, a book that wasn't even in the library's records... well, then it was possible there were other old books with forgotten knowledge buried in that place somewhere. Perhaps one with the answer he was looking for.
But to reach Gemarton, he had to get through Teche first. He was coming from Liesdro, and the high speed rail's only stop in Dirys short of Sector A was here in Teche. He was just in the midst of looking over a map with a furrowed brow, trying to figure the best way to Gemarton from here, when someone suddenly approached him and grabbed his attention.
The girl was a hood-clad Panthro, which was surprising enough; Endless didn't tend to see many Beastfolk in Dirys on account of the prevalent racism that caused many of them to stay out of sight. In fact, he wasn't even quite sure that they were called 'Panthro', but that sounded right. He didn't meet many Beastfolk, sadly...
More importantly though, she seemed to be in trouble, and was looking for a friend whom she was worried about. It was probably a good thing that she'd reached out to Endless for help; he was sure a lot of the people around here probably wouldn't have wanted anything to do with her. That thought alone was enough to make him decide he should do what he could to help her. If he didn't, who else would?
"Um, yeah, sure," he replied awkwardly, never quite good with strangers. He folded his map up and tucked it away, giving the girl his full attention and feeling thankful the moons weren't out right now. He didn't much feel like explaining the glowing eyes right now. "Er, what does your friend look like? Where did you see him last?"

[attr="class","bsbody"]He…he said yes!
Ekahi’s ears instantly perked up, almost throwing back her hood as they did so, and a toothy grin spread across her face. He was really going to help her find Nibbles! It took real effort on her part for the cub not to jump up and down at the news, but she had enough sense left in her not to draw that kind of unwanted attention. Still, with Stripes here now by her side, Ekahi felt that much closer to finding her friend. “Oh, thank you thank you thank you! You’re the bestest, mister!”
As the stranger took a moment to fold away his map the glint of something in the distance suddenly caught the cub’s eyes. With a glance Ekahi’s breath caught in her throat as she saw a patrol of officers and their holstered weapons enter the far end of the street, and as excited as she was, the assassin became very aware once again of the danger she was still in. They needed to get somewhere a little less open and a little more busy. Sooner rather than later, too. Still smiling at the man, the panthro quickly feigned eagerness and grabbed his nearest sleeve, even going so far as to dig her claws into the cloth as she began to pull him down the street and away from the oncoming patrol.
Not to say that she was not eager to look for Nibbles! She was very, very eager, but…well…for now she was a little more eager to just not get shot. That would really make looking for her friend a lot harder than it had to be honestly.
“What does he look like?”
Keeping her one hand tight on the man’s sleeve she placed a finger from the other over her chin.
“Um…he’s got orange hair, and a he’s a little smaller than he should be I think? And oh! He’s got the cutest little nose and the fuzziest little paws! I bet you’ll recognize Nibbles the moment you see him, though! He really is the nicest, sweetest cat here.”
As she spoke they began to leave the street and enter the packed crowd surrounding the market, and there Ekahi’s beating heart finally slowed. It was noisy, smelly, and, as small as she was, usually at least a little dangerous to her general wellbeing, but at least in the thick of the market they would be harder to spot. Not that it would make their job any easier though!
“Well you see, that’s the problem, mister. We were playing hide and sneak around the market all day and I haven’t seen Nibbles in soooo long! I promise I’m a super good finder, I really am! That’s why I think something might have happened to him.”
As the cub spoke the smell of cooked meats and spiced fruit wafted toward her from some of the nearby stalls, and her stomach growled. Ekahi was a lot hungrier than she had realized, and even as she began to eye some of the more tantalizing treats nearby with eager fingers, a sudden idea hit her, and she all but shouted it at her new companion.
“Maybe he got hungry! We were having so much fun we never got a chance to eat, so maybe Nibbles went to find some food!”
Endless Laerettix 553 x hope this is okay! and if you weren't interest in continuing this after so long just let me know!

Oh boy, what had he just gotten himself into?
No sooner than he'd given a vaguely positive response did the panthro girl immediately grab onto his sleeve and start dragging him away. He could feel her sharp claws digging into his arm a bit with the action, though the tightness of her grip told him she probably wasn't doing that intentionally. Probably. Rather, she seemed to just be quite excited to have found someone willing to help her, and if the racism in Dirys was as bad as he'd heard, then he couldn't really blame her for that. She was also clearly eager, though, given how insistent she was being, dragging him with impressive strength for someone her size (though Endless was hardly a very heavy man), and chatting excitedly about this friend of hers that she was missing.
Who was apparently a cat.
Endless thought it was almost a little odd for a panthro to have a cat as a pet, but then again, he knew there were plenty of humans who had pet monkeys, so it wasn't really that odd, right? Still, looking for a 'friend' and looking for a 'cat' were two kind of different things. Not in the sense that a cat couldn't be a friend - Endless loved animals, and had always kind of wanted a pet, but had never found one nor thought he could afford one - but in the sense that looking for a lost humanoid was probably a lot easier than looking for a small animal in a sea of people.
The girl had dragged him along to a dense market area as she talked, and came up with the seemingly brilliant idea that maybe her cat had gotten hungry. Endless wondered if that was a legit realization or if she had just been getting hungry herself and hoped Endless would buy her something. Well, she'd be out of luck there. He was mostly broke. Still, she'd finally stopped for a moment and so Endless took the opportunity to take his sleeve back, relieved that she let go and wasn't pressing him with her claws anymore.
"I, er, guess that's a possibility. Did you want to start looking around here? We could split up and look around the food stalls. I could meet you back at this spot in... let's say ten minutes, and let you know if I found him? No wait, if I find him he probably won't come to me... hm... Oh!"
Did he really have time to be wasting on this? Sure, every minute that passed here was only a seventh of a minute in the Feywild, but... But nothing. This girl was missing her cat and no one else was going to help her. He took off his scarf and showed it her, making sure her eyes caught the pattern.
"If I find him, I can make this float up into the air and wave around. Just make sure to glance up above the heads of the crowd every minute or so, and if you see this, come to it, okay?"
