| | Due to the focus on great storytelling and expansive worldbuilding here at Fortuna, there may be times when - to progress a storyline - a scene with another player's character simply won't do the trick. Maybe you intend to interact solely with an NPC, or with one of your own characters; potentially you want to explore your character's dreams or memories... That is the purpose of a "Narrative" post.
There are typically four kinds of narrative posts, though perhaps your's is something else, which are detailed here:
- Scenes featuring only one character. Some notable uses of this might be in the form of dreams and nightmares, or writing a letter.
- Scenes featuring only characters that you play. On occasion, more than one of your characters could be involved in the same storyline. And within that storyline - they may very well want a scene together to tell a better story. Instead of awkwardly roleplaying with yourself in a lonely thread, you can narrate the happenings here.
- Scenes featuring any number of your own character and NPC characters. Perhaps your character has earned a meeting with a Queen, or is receiving orders from their General. Whatever the reason, NPC characters exist for you to use -- and sometimes you need to use them alone.
- Scenes featuring only NPC characters. This is the one type of scene that doesn't involve any player characters. The NPC characters have their own existences, and places in storylines that may be of interest to you. You may read an NPC and wish to develop their storyline further, or simply wish to develop the NPC to better fit into a current storyline you're in. The NPCs are available for all to use in any way they see fit. Just keep in mind that any large changes you make in these scenes will have an impressive effect on Fortuna as a whole, but don't let that scare you from running with them! They are toys in our shared toy box.
Essentially, if you ever feel as though a storyline needs a scene that would not involve two different authors, it is a narrative post.
When you make your narrative post, you can use our labeling feature to choose the "Narrative" label. If you forget, don't worry, we'll get it marked off for you. | | |
