While in some worlds the soul may be a figurative or spiritual element, in Fortuna the soul is a metaphysical creation of the Deities.
There is much debate as to precisely how a soul is balanced, though it is generally agreed that a soul has four "pillars". These pillars define a person's potential, though not necessarily exactly who they are, their decisions, or the way their life will be structured. These different pillars are the powers of different pantheons, and represent the will of different deities.
Some diviners have the ability to see the soul, and describe it as something almost gaseous, and almost solid, but certainly defined. Those diviners have since determined thirteen stones, gems, or rocks that tie to the thirteen different visions of souls they have seen, which are used in astrology or superstition throughout the world.
