[attr="class","awardsbox"]
Characters, threads, storylines, even post templates... It all comes together to make a variety of amazing packages that make us pretty darn awesome. Sure, we might have those little periods of slump, but we always come back. We always have. And that's awesome. As someone who ran award shows for years, I like to award awesome, thus: The Fortuna Awards!
First off, a massive thank you to all those who voted: Ari, Cinder, endy, @jackie, @kelis, Mellie, Night, Patrick, and SigDigs -- your involvement in this event means the world to me!
Now I could sit here and type out a big ol' intro, or I could just get to the awards... So -- here's the awards!

[attr="class","awardsnum"]Favourite Moments
[attr="class","awards2box"]Throughout the awards you'll find tidbits just like this one, a collection of moments gathered from the "Favorite Moments" category. There are no moment that was mentioned twice: But there were a lot of special somethings that people mentioned, and this is how we'll celebrate them.
My Favourite Moment Was... Charlotte and Kikuriku's moment of bonding while bathing during "Journey to the Glass Tomb".
“Say, Rose,” Kiku started, taking a break from blowing little bubbles in the water to engage in small talk. “And I ask this knowing I’ve already asked you at least forty-three questions, but why are you doing this? I mean, why are you embarking on this journey to save the world? How did you even come into this?” He let the questions hang in the air, muttering ‘forty-six’ quietly to himself.
"Imagine for a moment," she said, breaking the silence. "That you see a child playing in the road. There is a carriage heading towards him, and the driver is too distracted to notice and stop his horses. Or perhaps the driver is even malicious, and wishes to see them trample the child. You possess the means to simply step out and rescue the child before the driver will reach them. Would you stand and watch it happen?"
She turned in her bath, resting her folded arms on the edge of the pool and settling her chin down onto them. With one finger she started to draw shapes in the sand, random lines as her eyes stared off into nowhere. "Imagine a scenario just like that, magnified millions of times in scale. I believe there are only two varieties of people in this world, whatever nuance may define their finer details; those who would rescue the child, and those who would watch them die. Perhaps I am simply just one of the former. Or perhaps... Perhaps there are some things in life you just do."
Kiku walked over to Rose’s bath and sat down across from her, rolling up his pant leg and allowing one foot to rest in her much-warmer water. He stared absentmindedly at the woman who’d so quickly become a companion – the fact that she was naked and bathing didn’t cross his mind at all. He took a deep breath, sucking in the cool night air.
“This is such a beautiful night for adventuring.”

My Favourite Moment Was... Nicole's unexpected shift from dutiful, optimistic soldier to freedom-fighting pirate in "Cellmates".
Maldrem stepped down the rocks carefully, down to a pile of kelp that had amassed against them with the lapping of the waves. Or so it had appeared; pulling the kelp aside revealed a small row boat, anchored and bobbing gently. "Our chariot awaits," he said, gingerly stepping inside. "The grail should be anchored just beyond the horizon. So get those rowing arms ready."
"Your last chance to back out, Princess," Leigh said as she bent to better prepare the run. She'd give Nicole a chance to run away and never look back. She expected it. It was one thing to wanna 'be friends' in the sewer when you still thought you were gonna die. It was another thing to be out in the fresh breeze of the outside world where North, East, South West -- all of it was a path just waiting for you. Leigh eyed Wight, signalling briefly that she was betting a gold coin on Nicole cutting out.
Nicole climbed into the rowboat. "I'm guessing the Grail is your ship. Come to think of it, you haven't really told me what your crew calls themselves. Or your captain's name. Well, whoever you guys are, I followed you both is far. I couldn't back out even if I wanted to. So, what are we waiting for? Let's get out of here."
"The Defiled Grail," Maldrem explained with a sense of excitement. Indoctrinating a newcomer... there was something thrilling about it. "The last and greatest band of pirates on the seas. And you're about to be one of 'em. Congratulations."
The look in Nicole's eyes as she listened to it all was, if Maldrem had to guess, determined. Certain. He grinned.
They rowed their way towards another day.

[attr="class","awards2box"]
My Favourite Moment Was... The moment Violet realizes that she was wrong about Tom, and he turns on her during "The Feast".
"What did you think I was angry about?" Violet's ask was quiet, and free of the normal musical cadence her voice always took on. She slipped around him, feeling more comfortable where she could get to the door, and then turned to face his back.
"What?" He finally sounded, his head shifting to see her without fully turning around to face her. She repeated herself, and he laughed again, shaking his head. "Vi, I didn't think anything."
"No, you were relieved when I told you about the centaur. Relieved. What were you afraid I knew?" She was more urgent now, and he was giving her nothing but silence, and a confused look.
He shook his head again, and spoke as he took steps towards her, "Vi, Violet. I think you're trying to solve mysteries that don't exist. I was relieved because I didn't want you to be angry with me, for any reason. If you're worried I'm hiding something from you--"
"It's about Acacia, isn't it?"
When she said the word Acacia, his pulse had quickened, the sound of blood rushing filled his ears, and the tips of his fingers tingled. He wasn't usually threatened or nervous when someone discovered his secret, because he still had some way to save the situation, but this time was different. Violet had intimate knowledge of Black, Green, and Red2, as well as of his facility. She had old files that could support her new knowledge, and enough connections that it could be extremely damaging to him, to Acacia, if not a death sentence.
Perhaps that was why the door had quietly opened sooner than he expected, before he could lunge at Violet and try to take care of her himself. Usually Scarlett was precise about her time, but her sense of his endangerment combined with her powers over divination had to have jump-started her responses. And it wasn't just Scarlett at the door. She was flanked by two others. One, an armed guard of the palace, wielding heavy chains; the other, a mysterious figure in a black cloak who's hands burned with bright light.
Violet didn't have a chance.

While magic is all well and good, when it comes to a fantasy world there is something intensely interesting about a character without magic. In truth, each of the protagonists on the site brings something unique and exciting, and it was really proved by how the votes looked. Every possible nominee received a vote. My Favourite Moment Was... Pelagia and Woodrow forming a strange new relationship "To Win the World", "A Most Unbearable Evening", and "The Feast".
"I feel I've avoided a private meeting such as this for far too long, Pelagia," Woodrow spoke as he observed the pouring of the wine with an air of intimidation for the poor server, "I'm sure you're well aware of the opinions I, and other men in my esteem, have held of you. Seems perhaps you've been made victim of salacious claims to the contradiction of truth..." Should this not all be an act, He thought with a smile. He raised his glass as soon as the server had completed filling both, and offered it to her-- "To discovering new truths."
Pelagia could tell she was on the right track. She doubted she was completely out of the woods - not with a man like Woodrow, who liked to hold all the power and was wary of anyone who could potentially threaten that with power of their own. But her words had clearly been enough to make him more comfortable. More confident. If he wasn't starting to believe he could trust her, he was at least starting to believe that even if he couldn't, she was giving him too much power for her to be a threat.
"I am indeed quite aware," she replied, her smile one of slightly saddened resignation. She raised her own glass. "Unfortunate rumors, I fear, which began back in my homeland. A number of people were less than thrilled to see Her Majesty award a traditionally male position to someone like me. But more unfortunately still was how those rumors ended up beyond the borders of Aurcaele. I carry the burden of their implications everywhere. But I'm sure I don't have to tell a man like you, Markus, that we cannot allow the words of naysayers to dissuade us from our path. We must doggedly pursue the path of truth, for it is only the gods we must answer to."
Her smile grew brighter. "And so I say not to new truths, but to real truths." And with this, she met his glass with a soft clink.

My Favourite Moment Was... The dynamic of sass shown between Leigh and Talindra briefly in "Ocean's Four" and moreso in "Predator and Prey".
“And would you have her wear the same rags you do, Leigh? Come now, let the girl have some fashion. I for one find it a nice change of pace.”
With a smile Tali lifted her mask and pulled it over her eyes as she continued on. Not even close to as much as the high elf had, of course, but enough to make the ship feel a little less like a boat full of street urchins and a little more like the courts of Rielcia. The new girl could at least pass for a guard there.
There was no one but the haughty Phoenix who could ruin Leigh's day so quickly. Her face turned to a glower and she watched as the woman went to go and suck up to the Captain as usual. If the Captain weren't so immune to sex, she'd be certain it was Phoenix on her knees for him on the daily. "I shouldn't be surprised you consider a dirty uniform 'fashion'," Leigh snarled after her, "Or a cheap masquerade mask." By the time she'd finished her statement, Phoenix was long gone to the Captain's side. She knew that Phoenix had incredible power, which had to be why the Cap permitted her on board the ship... But she did a number on crew morale.
"Ignore her," She seethed to Nicole, crossed her arms in frustration, "As long as you don't take her way about it."

My Favourite Moment Was... Vincent and Tehodis escaping from the SSPB with the help of Kikuriku in "International Waters".
Kikuriku opened the door and whirled himself outside, closing the door swiftly behind him. He stood in front of three heavily armed guards, his hand shaking on the doorknob behind him. It was a precarious situation, to be sure.
Vincent gave Kikuriku a quick nod, understanding what was about to be attempted and mentally wishing him the best of luck. Out of the three of them, Kikuriku's odds of escape were by far the highest. This ruse of his could prove successful, and then he could duck into a shadow to beat a hasty retreat.
Tehodis' mind rushed with the horror of what he was doing. He was going to risk his life (again) to protect her (again) - walking right into the belly of the beast.
“W…wait just a moment, gentlemen,” Kikuriku began, the words trembling from his lips. “I am an officer of the Sumish Sea Peacekeepers Brigade, and I demand to know why you are barging on this door!”
Kiku’s voice, and his appearance, was that of Tehodis Kitai.

My Favourite Moment Was... In "Ambitions and Advisory", Charlotte divines Woodrow's future, and sees branching paths.
"Lord Markus Woodrow. Your life is as embroiled in the tides of Moann as one could possibly be; the extremes that lie ahead of you are as opposite as heads and tails, and hinge upon your every action. What I have told you already is now paramount to your fate. You must not allow your pride and short-sightedness to feed your actions."
She set her Crystal Ball onto the ground, and it appeared as though Woodrow was going to say something to her, to ask her to elaborate perhaps, so she held up a hand as a form of silence. Perhaps he was just interested enough not to take it too offensively.
"The fate of your heir hangs in the balance of your actions concerning a woman of white. I see there is a possibility, a future where you sire your child with her as you wish. But there is a seed of corruption in your own actions which you must be ever vigilant for. For it is your own actions that will snap that thread of destiny. You will lose her, and you will lose your child.
"Be wary of that which you deem insignificant. Stay watchful of that which you believe cannot harm you. Your life is a maze of bramble, where every turn may be wrong, and may be your last. You follow the path dictated to you by your unwavering determination... an admirable trait on its own, but if you heed not my warnings of hubris, you will destroy yourself."
And the whole world may suffer for it, she thought.
"I'm always wary of my choices," Woodrow asserted, "As only a child of Moann could be. Perhaps some of my choices are to take risks - like the ones that lead me to you this eve... But a risk is not without its reward, as what you have told me has confirmed feelings I had yet to recognize in the serious way your reading had recommended to me."

My Favourite Moment Was... Nikolai and Violet getting high off of cheshire slugs in "The Ominous Swamp Adventure".
"Um, Maybe-Mapleheart, I think we should cover the window." He wasn't sure if she was listening, because he wasn't sure if he was actually talking. The words seemed to fall out of his mouth as stones and they were breaking through the wooden floorboards and falling down down down into oblivion where they turned into bubbles and popped. He felt like a bubble that could pop at any time, floating floating through the cabin as he tried to find something solid to put in front of the window except everything he touched turned to ash.
By the time Nikolai was telling Violet they ought to cover the windows, she was lying on her stomach in the middle of the room, face in between two floor-boards, watching the show happening beneath.
"The dust elves are putting on a musical! You must see them-- the window?" She pulled herself free of the floorboard -- her ears caused her to stick a little at first. She looked to the window and then shook her head violently, "Why no! You should open them! The audience should get to see the show!" She quickly ran up to it and tried to figure out how to open it, but a window lock seemed overly complicated for her hallucinating mind.
Nikolai slowly got to his hooves and had to hold his head again while the world around him spun wildly. Stop stop STOP he opened his eyes and grabbed Maybe-Mapleheart around her torso, around the strange coat with coattails, and pulled her away from the window. "No no no no no. I don't care how good the musical is, if they were performing under the floorboards they probably didn't want the monster outside to see, hmm?" But, she wasn't letting go. Her fingers were curled around the edges and she was holding on for dear life as he tried to pull her away. It was actually quite hilarious, or would be to an outside observer who wasn't violently hallucinating, but finally her fingers slipped and the momentum of pulling her backward almost caused them to fall over except one convenient upside of having four legs is that sometimes your balance can be pretty rock solid.
It was the roar that stilled her in his grasp. She tried to bury her head in his shoulder, but his head was already buried in her's and it was an action that would demand far too much coordination for the mindset she was in. Instead, she stared at the window. And the door. And the roof. And the chimney. And the floorboard she very much regretted removing.
"Did you--?" She asked, and the way that Nikolai hid himself into her more - despite being twice her size - answered her question.

My Favourite Moment Was... The revealing of Tom's deceit to Woodrow in "International Waters", and the way that it changed their relationship.
"You're a fucking monster," He decided, his eyes finally rising once more to meet Tom's. There was no world in which Markus Woodrow was going to release Thomas Dunn. No future where Tom would have a chance to prove his villainy again, no way he was going to be put in the situation Vincent and his posse had locked him into moments before. "Do you understand that, Dunn? You're a twisted, evil little man."
"My lord, you have to understand I had no choice in the matter," Tom struggled to speak, Woodrow's heavy arm beginning to stop his breathing. He knew the only thing that could possibly save him now. Give Woodrow a bigger corruption to solve. Make himself look weak. Small fish. Appeal to Woodrow's intense ego. "The Artavian government--" He cut himself off this time, not because of his lack of air, but to allow Woodrow to finish the thought himself. He maintained his struggle, acting the weak man that Woodrow now saw him as.
"You may have known me solely as a diplomat, Dunn, but I have fought hand and blade against foes more deadly than you." His whisper was a threat, and his breath was hot on Tom's face. As he spoke, his free hand moved down Tom's arms, then chest, then waist, his sides, and down his legs. The pistol couldn't hide from his inspection, and Markus wrested it free, single-handedly freeing the disgusting machine of it's ammo, which dropped to the ground with a clatter. He did not prefer to use them, but he certainly knew how to. With Tom’s lack of arms confirmed, Woodrow released the man at long last. "If you make one misguided move, I will not hesitate to kill you."
With that, Woodrow moved to the door, closing and locking it to give the two privacy, before returning to the couches in Dunn's suite. The closure of the door kept the raucous sounds outside quiet, and Woodrow seemed like a shark in his natural element as he stalked to the couches. He took a seat purposefully and poured out a snifter from the scotch sitting on the table, gesturing to the adjacent couch, impatient: "Sit. We have much to talk about."
