ust like that, the options dwindled down to just one: Flight. Magical flight, she had to think, based on his lack of avian wings. She graciously looked surprised as she stood upright, tugging a rope taut altogether as she straightened.
"Flew!" She repeated again, clicking her tongue with an expression that might have been impressed, "That's sure a feat. Goodness me, I think my arms t'would be gettin' tired." As she spoke she began moving ropes, pulling, slacking, tying them until the ship's sails spread and moved to catch the breeze. Take-off was slow without the extra juice you'd use in a race, the wind cautiously filling the sails in whatever direction it desired before she could swap the canvas back 'round, and boost the lightning feed to grab some momentum of her own. She didn't mind the delay in the moment, though. she had more questions for her new friend. "Why in the world would you be flying to every rock in Celestia? What's waitin' for you in that jungle out here-- if you don't mind my curiosity!"
Kapu didn't mind satisfying someone else's curiosity, for the most part. As long as the curiosity was respectful and didn't stem from insult, as he had experienced a few times on his journey thus far. Quinn seemed to be impressed at any rate, which was admittedly fluffing his ego just a bit. She said that if she flew her arms would get tired and he nodded understandingly, taking it quite literally. He thought perhaps the flight from Vieri to Aurcaele would be more difficult than the flight from the ground to Vieri had been, so he would be sure to rest after the jungle trial to ensure he had his full strength. He would need Wyghal's guidance to make it to such great heights.
He watched with interest as the sailor began getting the ship ready to fly, pulling ropes and tying things off, altogether much like on a regular ship except for the flying bit. He wondered, if the world had such flying ships, was it Wyghal himself keeping them from simply flying to their island? Like the whirlpools in the sea, did he protect them from the air as well? He had never considered flying away from the island, nor had he asked. Perhaps when he returned he would find out.
Quinn asked him why he was flying everywhere in Celestia, and also what he was going to the jungle to do. She certainly was a curious one, though he couldn't fault her. And he supposed anyone willing to pick up strangers would be the kind of person who might want to chat with them too. "I don't mind speaking of it," he replied. "What awaits me in the jungle is what awaits anyone who goes there - a trial that I must pass. Though in my case the jungle is more than that as well, as it is one of many locations important to my people that I must visit to complete my Uhane Holo."

uinn was downright riveted as Kapueo explained, but she didn't light up until he said the words: 'Uhane Holo'. Just like that, everything pieced together in her mind and a grin formed on her lips. While she had never met someone from the place Kapueo was from -- Taitoa, Kailoa, Shamboa... She couldn't quite place the name -- she had most certainly read about it, and thought it was marvelous. A coastal village populated by aasimar of the God of whirlpools, who turned into mystical beasts by dancing, a people who traveled the world to gain knowledge they could bring back to their home to better lead. It was exciting stuff, to be sure, and Quinn couldn't believe that she had stumbled upon one like this. On his Uhane Holo for goodness sakes!
It was sure that her attraction had gone from zero, thinking he was just some human, to sixty -- knowing he was an aasimar from a little talked about culture.
This here was the big times. This young man was travelling the world (perhaps to become a leader of his people, if she were remembering right), which meant that what he did on the outside would shape a generation's history. And she -- Quinn herself! -- had the opportunity to be a part of history right here and now, and boy howdy - there was no way she was missing out.
"Well didn't you just find the perfect captain!" She beamed with a cheeky wink, the ship beginning to lurch forward on the way to Vieri's centre at a slow pace, "For the sake of an Uhane Holo I can get you to the jungle no problem -- but there is one little nugget I've simply got to ask of you."
The woman looked interested, and winked as she told him he had found the perfect captain. The ship began moving at this point and it was remarkably similar to how a regular ship moved, so although the flying part was still quite new to him he found his sea legs quickly and didn't get too thrown off by the movement.
Quinn told him that for the sake of his Uhane Holo she could absolutely get him to the jungle, although she had one little nugget to ask from him. "Nugget?" he repeated questioningly, unsure he had ever heard the word before. He understood the rest well enough to know she wanted something from him though. "What is it you seek?"

er heart battered against her rib-cage as he didn't quite understand her words. A divide in language was always something that got her excited. It was exotic. He was exotic. She loved exotic.
"Nothing much!" She assured, wrapping ropes around her hands carefully as she positioned herself to impress. Once they'd settled on a price, she'd show him what a skyship was truly good for. "Just stories. Tales. About you, about where you're from, the Uhane Holo-- Nothing's uninteresting to me. You talk, and I'll navigate-- Sound like a deal?"
Quinn had been showing off a bit pretty much the whole time the two had been interacting, and honestly it was working - Kapu held a respect for any sailor and the added pinache of the airship was enough to suitably impress him. He alternated between admiring the ship and looking to her whenever she spoke, a sign of respect that was universal. He wanted to offer to help, somehow, as a guest on this ship, but he knew nothing about piloting a flying ship and it seemed Quinn was more than capable of handling it herself. In fact, he was fascinated to watch her do it, and couldn't wait to take off for real. Once this was handled.
'Nothing much' was her reply to what she wanted from him, which seemed like something most people would say regardless of what it was they wanted, and she followed it up by specifying what she was after - information. Stories, about him and Kaikoa and the Uhane Holo. He could talk while she flew the ship. He thought for a moment about the offer, and about what he could or should share about his home. How much could he say without it becoming a risk to his people? They were independent from Submiere despite being a part of it, and they were unbothered by the rest of the world. Could telling Quinn Connelly about their island be a risk to their obscurity?
Eventually he nodded and flashed a smile. "Deal." She said that nothing was uninteresting to her, but despite that he found himself trying to think of what might be the most interesting to tell her about. Admittedly, he didn't know how long the trip would be to the forest. For all he knew it might be only a few minutes, or many hours. He decided he could start by telling her about the Uhane Holo, and then move on to the culture of his island if there was more time, and leave stories about himself for last as he wasn't sure whether she cared to hear about him in particular or just his people as a whole. But he supposed it wouldn't hurt to ask. "What would you most like to hear about?"

apueo seemed somewhat hesitant at Quinn's request, which only ignited her interest more. Where beforre she had wanted to know before all she could for pure interest's sake, she was now interested because there was something worth hiding. Something worth a second thought before speaking careful words. It was a tantalizing carrot on a stick and Quinn would take her sweet time with this ride if it meant she could snap it up.
Her passenger did acquiesce, of course, and even left the ball in her court to decide the first topic. It was a daring move, and Quinn was looking forward to playing this game with such an unpredictable opponent.
"Most?" She wondered, tongue clicking quietly in thought as if the gears of her mind were audible, "Well-- There's quite a lot to choose from! I've got a laywoman's understanding, but uh, sad to say you're the first expert I've met. How about... This Uhane Holo. You head out into the savage lands of modern Fortuna and travel about the world... Why do it? Why risk the danger? There's gotta be a history to it, but I'm ashamed to say I don't know more than a tale here or there."
Quinn told him that he was the first expert she'd met, on the topic of Uhane Holos and his people at any rate, and he didn't doubt it. Not many Kaikoans left the island, though he supposed most that did would be during their Uhane Holos if they fell to the temptation of the outside world. Without knowing how old Quinn was he couldn't say for sure, but the last Uhane Holo had been long ago, possibly even before she was born. It had been before Kapu was born at least, but he had been trained since birth for the time it would come so while he couldn't say he was an expert in practice he certainly knew enough about it in theory to entertain a curious mind. She wanted to know about it. Why risk the danger? He leaned against the side of the boat and thought of how best to put it for an outsider to understand.
"The Uhane Holo is an ancient tradition of my tribe - both culturally and practically important to my people. The trial of the Uhane Holo grows each time it is completed, as we must visit locations around the world found to be significant by each past Chief - whether they teach a lesson or bring us closer to our God or any number of reasons - and then find a new location that is equally significant that we present to the tribe when we return to the island. By gaining knowledge of the world through this trial we all return stronger, wiser, and more capable and share our knowledge and the changes in the world with our people. The new chief will be selected from those who have completed the trial and thus each chief is, so they say, better than the last."
He paused for a moment and looked thoughtful before adding, "Not all of those who leave the island return when the Uhane Holo is finished. Some do not survive the trials, and some choose to leave because they have found their place out here. But the value we gain by holding the trials is worth the risks it may pose. We may be separate from the rest of the world, but remaining ignorant to it would be more dangerous than the trial ever could be."

he idea of the Uhane Holo, as Kapueo described it, was both wonderful and stupid. Quinn was entirely taken by the idea of travelling the world in seek of significant historical places (and things, mostly things), and these Kaikoans had built a whole culture around it. After all, Quinn herself had devoted her life to a less structured version of the same thing.
The stupid part of it all was that each chief would add on another distant place, making the trials more long, more deadly, and more dangerous. Kapu cut a strapping, young figure, and Quinn wondered how much younger they would need to get as time went on. Perhaps she wasn't giving his people enough credit though. When she really thought of it, it seemed likely that they had a plan in place for such a future.
In that case: She thought the Uhane Holo was stupidly wonderful. It was only a shame she would never have the opportunity to sign-up.
As Kapueo began to explain to Quinn that some Kaikoans chose to remain in the outside world, her brows raised in surprise and interest. As far as she knew she hadn't met any but him, and now definitively wanted to. Surely any that remained of the previous go-round would be old and leathery by now, but they'd still be damn interesting.
"I s'pose that's how your people have managed to keep on their own for so long, then? You come and spy on the rest of us lugs and learn the new shite we've invented so that you're prepared for it?" She gave a wink to indicate her tease, "It's obvious whatever you're doing is working. It's interestin', really, that you all've managed to not be found yet. I imagine that hasn't stopped some from lookin'."
Quinn Connelly was a very expressive person, and as he talked about the Uhane Holo he would guess fairly confidently that she was interested, which was encouraging. She didn't laugh, interrupt, or otherwise show disrespect and he found himself feeling more comfortable as he spoke with sharing these things with her. He didn't intend to divulge any compromising information - as far as he was aware anyway - but he felt that she didn't just care about this with the intention of like, finding the island and attacking his people or something. Maybe he was putting more stock into her character than she deserved, but she had been nothing but friendly and inquisitive since they'd met - and she offered him a ride in her floating skyship which was really cool. It was also quite trusting because for all she knew he could be a psychotic murderer looking for his next victim, so either she trusted him enough to not attack her or she was confident enough in her own ability to defend herself to put up with such a risk.
When he finished talking she made a joke about how they came out to spy on the 'lugs' (he didn't know this word) and learn all the new 'shite' (he also didn't know this word) and though he understood the wink meant it was a joke (such a thing was also done in Kaikoa, it wasn't just the outside world that did that) he probably looked a little confused about the rest. He was pretty sure he got the general idea though. She said whatever they were doing must be working, and it was interesting that they hadn't been found yet, despite the likelihood of people looking for them. "Wyghal protects our island," he explained simply. "We are his children, and it is through our worship and His will that we are kept safe from those who would seek us out."
