8:55pm on the 6th of The Path of Many Forks, 5148 Outskirts of the Hidden Village Loturana
The first thing he notices when the world feels like it stops moving is that the air around him feels very different. He's scared to open his eyes, knowing without a doubt that something has happened, that he and Tehodis have definitely been moved somewhere, and he's not so sure he's ready to believe in this at all, let alone see it.
But eventually, his curiosity, and an excited fluttering in his chest compels him to open his eyes, and he is floored by what he sees.
Tehodis, not nearly as hesitant, has already opened hers, and is already on her feet, looking around. The two of them are on top of what appears to be a gigantic mushroom, colored a rosy pink color, and all around them are similar mushrooms growing in different lengths. Rivers of molten lava seem to be arcing through the very sky somehow, not a drop of it dripping out or causing any harm, and Endless follows the arc of one of them with his eyes, trying to see where it comes from, and this ends up causing him to peak over the edge of their mushroom. It's a long, long way down, and he can see one of the lava rivers eventually coming to its source down there, oozing freely from an opening in the ground. Incidentally, the ground far below appears to be completely black, and despite the presence of lava everywhere, there's lots of flourishing plant life.
He lifts his eyes back up to look at Tehodis, but he sees her own gaze locked on one of the many other things that dot the sky (and there is just too much to name - strange bugs, possibly fairies, a distant dragon or two, weird objects that look like balloons made out of flowers, and it goes on and on). Endless follows her gaze, and he sees the thing that's caught her attention. Far off from their big mushroom, there is what looks to be a city. Or a town? Or something similar to them. It doesn't quite look... modern, though. The buildings are all in various vibrant colors, and nothing about them looks as though it was made from stone or wood or anything Endless has seen before.
"Wow..." he manages. He has no idea what else to say. He has no idea how to even make sense of what he's seeing, let along process it. He gets to his feet properly and steps up beside her. "Tehodis, is this..." He knows that what he is about to ask must be a stupid, stupid question, but he has to be sure, and she seems to know more than he does about this. "Is this it? Is this the... Feywild?"
What appears to be a raging blizzard encapsulated into a sphere suddenly goes flying by, very close to where he is standing, and he startles with an embarrassing squeak and falls backwards to get out of its way. The mushroom makes a similar squeak when he lands on his behind on it, and the little blizzard-ball just keeps on going its way, unbothered by having nearly crashed into him. "Or maybe we're just having a very vivid dream," he says.

The first thing she notices when the world stops moving, is the smell. It's some kind of combination of lavish perfume - the most expensive smell in the world - and the smell of baking cookies. It makes her feel a little light-headed, and so she opens her eyes to get her balance - only to find herself atop a mushroom, whose squishing surface makes it all the harder. She laughs a bit, and she thinks that the mushroom laughs back. She's not sure if it would even be a mushroom - perhaps it only looks like one, but here... Here in this place, it's something else.
The next thing she sees is the city, she feels almost as if the mushroom insisted she look at it. There are buildings of every colour she had ever seen - and some in shades she couldn't even describe. Some of the buildings spiraled, others spired; some of them were round, and others square. It was like a dream she had lived ten times over - but one she had never been awake for.
When Endless says the word: Feywild it seems to ring through the sky. Something flies past Endless and knocks him down and the mushroom-looking thing squeaks. "Careful!" Tehodis says, helping Endless to his feet. When he's up, she turns down to the mushroom and says, "Sorry about that," The mushroom seems to laugh, Tehodis isn't sure if it can understand... But she feels as thought it does.
"I think it's both," She tells Endless, moving carefully to the edge of the mushroom, "I think maybe... The feywild is a dream. I think I've been here before. In mine. It feels familiar. I wonder--" She takes a step off the mushroom, dreaming for a second that she wouldn't fall. She feels the air around her as she does, and disappears from Endless' sight. He calls her name...
And the shoot of the mushroom that aided her step raises back up. She opens her eyes, and waves. "I think you have to believe, Endless. Just... Believe!" She takes another step, and the mushroom steadies her foot again, bringing another shoot to balance her. She steps in a spiraling shape, creating a staircase of small mushrooms. "Thank you," She says to the bottom of the stalk when she reaches it, putting a kind hand on it's length. She looks around, and finds herself amazed that the plants that looked like mere grass and flowers from above, are now as tall as trees. They were so high up...
"Can you believe it?" She calls out to Endless, her voice full of laughter. She's never felt so free before.

Endless thinks perhaps he's seen it all when he swears he hears the mushroom laugh at Tehodis's apology to it. Then he thinks, oddly enough, that maybe he should have been the one to apologize, since he's the one who fell on it, but he decides that it's all just a little too weird for him right now, so he doesn't. Tehodis though, she seems right at home in all of this, as though she knows exactly what she's supposed to do. Endless thinks maybe it might be because she's a Kina - because that is what she is, isn't it? He's not imagining, especially in the weird light that is present in this place, how there's that vaguely mystical sheen beneath her skin, skin that is colored a pure white without it looking unnatural like his own. He wishes he could remember what the different colors were supposed to mean with Kina, but right now that doesn't exactly matter.
It doesn't matter because she steps right off of the mushroom.
"Tehodis!" he calls after her, preparing to dive and retrieve her if he has to, but before he can so much as lift his feet off the ground, she's standing perfectly well where before there was nothing. He hesitates, one hand raised after her now going slack with surprise, as she takes another step, telling Endless that he only has to believe as more mushrooms continue to sprout up from way below to catch her footfalls.
No, no he cannot believe it, he thinks after she asks. This is all so weird, so unnatural, so... exciting. He wonders to himself if maybe this is a dream, and thinks it would be a shame if he were to forget all of it upon waking up. Tehodis is dancing around on another large mushroom, bigger than the ones she made a set of stairs out of, the same size as the one they appeared on. Endless notes that most of the mushrooms that are already touching the sky like theirs are platform-sized, like they were made for it, while the smaller ones that acted as steps seem to stay earthbound - until, apparently, they are needed.
But despite her urging, Endless still isn't completely sure he can trust himself to believe in those mushrooms coming to his rescue like they did for Tehodis. But he has another idea, one he's suddenly eager to try. Maybe it's the way the air of this place feels alive with some kind of energy, one that encourages him, or maybe it's because he's sure that after everything she's seen, Tehodis wouldn't find this weird at all. So he stands up, closes his eyes for a moment and lets his body fall into the familiar tug of his power, power he likes to keep hidden for the sake of normalcy but that he relishes in the sensation of for its ability to make him feel like he's actually in control of his movements for once.
He opens his eyes, smiles, and takes a running leap, flying off of the mushroom's surface as though gravity has been cut into a quarter of its usual self, and sailing through the air with all the poise and grace he normally never possesses. He starts to come down, heading towards the stem of another giant mushroom, so he merely sticks his feet out and kicks off of it, sending himself airborn once more and even throwing in a little twirl because of how freeing it feels. As he arcs down for a third time, he leaps just once more off the surface he makes contact with (an odd floating rock) and then guides himself into a landing, gently, atop another large mushroom.
He turns around, looking down towards Tehodis - she's a couple of stalks behind him now, and he throws her a cheerful grin. She had seemed to like his eyes, so maybe she'd even like that, too? It'd be nice if someone could show approval to him for what he could do for once, and he feels almost sure that Tehodis would be someone who would.
"What's taking you so long?" he asks, letting himself feel just a bit playful. "Do you wanna see that city up ahead or not?"

While Tehodis was focused on getting back to the ground - Endless had another idea. And it was marvellous. He was flying - well, sort of. He was bouncing, at least. Kicking off against giggling mushrooms and strange orbiting rocks, making jumps that would be impossible in any other place... This wasn't any other place though.
"This is what you told me about, dad," She smiled and whispered these words to herself, grinning at Endless' freedom, "The feywild." She still didn't know if those were memories or dreams, but she did know that they had lead them here, and that was good enough for her.
Endless called to her, and she nodded. She'd try, too. She took another step, and as if reading her mind the step that grew under her foot didn't just grow a step. Once both feet were on it, it grew and grew and grew -- and it angled itself, pushing her up and forwards until finally--
B-boing-g-g
She was sprung towards Endless, with a speed that had her passing by him at high speeds. He pushed off again to meet her speed, and the two began to race. As she began to fall, she willed another shroom, which jumped to meet her foot. When he began to fall, he pushed off against the next rock, the next shroom, and it always seemed to be there for him. Eventually, she willed instead for something to grab - and a vine swung in her direction. She snagged it, the speed causing her to spin around on the thing for a while. When she slowed however, she was able to find the thing she had spotted.
"Look there!" She called to Endless, catching his attention in time for him to grab a vine that appeared from the clouds. "Do you see that?" She pointed to a large expanse of pink and orange just below them - a tree in the strangest of colours. It could barely be spotted, but there was fruit on the tree. Large, golden apples. They looked delicious. "Hungry?"

Endless would actually be shocked to admit it, but he is having fun. What started as fear, apprehension, and disbelief, has gradually morphed into joy, laughter, and a distinct sense of freedom he's never quite felt before. Tehodis surprised him, performing similar moves to his own after he started the pace - leaping off of mushrooms and flying far. Though he reasoned, judging by the way the mushrooms assisted her leaps more, that she likely wasn't accomplishing this by means of any special gifts, but did that really matter? He decides it doesn't, because this whole place is supernatural, answering their whims as they think of them.
The two race good-naturedly without seeming to actually care who wins, and they try all sorts of things, including swinging on vines of all things. Endless is out of breath by the time Tehodis comes to stop for a moment, pointing out a tree below them. Endless, clinging to his own vine, just grins and nods at her. "Wait here," he instructs, and decides he wants to try something.
Previously, he'd only ever used his abilities to aid his natural movements, leaping further than he would normally be able, controlling turns and twirls, and coordinating himself better than he was physically capable of. But he's never tried sustained levitation before, the opportunity to practice it has never really come up. So he decides he'll try it now, because even if he fails, the mushrooms will save him, won't they?
He lets go of his vine and starts floating downwards gently, wobbling a little in the air; it's tougher than he figured it would be, but he's holding steady, moving where he wants to move, and eventually he finds himself face to face with a very odd-looking fruit growing from an odd-looking tree. He smiles and, feeling whimsical, says "Hello! Is it okay if I take this?"
By now he's not surprised to hear the tree answer him, giving a little giggle and a "mmhm". No words, but clearly approval. He reaches out and plucks two of the fruits from the branch, then floats himself back to Tehodis. The longer he does it, the more used to it he feels, his levitation much less shaky on the way back up, but he still feels tired enough to want to sit down once he's reached her and handed her one of the fruits, so he leans backwards onto a mushroom he knows will be there, and he isn't let down when one sprouts up to cradle him.
"Thank you," he says to it, grinning in childish wonder as he accepts this place more and more. He glances back at Tehodis, who seems delighted with his little display, and he thinks this is the first time he's ever, ever encountered anyone who was so wholly pleased by everything they saw about him - the large, glowing eyes, the unnatural skin, the strange powers, she hasn't batted an eye at any of it, and despite the fact that it's been scarcely an hour since they've met (or has it? Did time work the same here in the feywild?), he starts to feel a sense of attachment towards her. He's never really had a friend, not since he lost his family. But he wonders if Tehodis might be the first.
"Hey Tehodis? Thanks for making me come here," he says. "This has been... like nothing I've ever known."

Endless told her to wait, and so she leaned back from the vine, letting go of it - and felt the petals of a flower soften around her. It must have been one of the sources of the beautiful smells in the Feywild - because it smelled like freshly baked cookies. She laughed, Endless had knocked her into flowers in the beach earlier - and now she was treating one as a seat, as a bed. "Thank you, and thank you to all of your friends, too," Tehodis smiled as she pet the stamen of the flower. After she did, she poked her head over the side of the petals to watch Endless, floating around and asking the tree for some fruits. Her stomach made a gurgle - she was so hungry... She couldn't remember the last time she ate. Or if she had ever eaten at all.
Endless returned, still floating, and she found herself both amazed and jealous at these feats. Sure, she could use the mushrooms to blast off, and her race meant that she had little weight to bring her down - but even if she fell like a feather, she still fell. He didn't. He had some kind of magic her body would likely never understand. He handed her one of the fruits, and her stomach lunged. She almost took a bite out of it right there -- but he had something to say. A thank you. She flushed, the pure white magic under her skin greying around her cheeks, and her ears. "Thank you for believing in adventure," She smiled back, "I didn't really know we could do this. Go to this place -- yet... Maybe it just wanted us to believe we could."
She opened her mouth once again to eat, her mouth watering -- and then came a loud, high-pitched: "Stop!" The flower curled up around her at the sudden noise, and in her surprise she dropped her golden apple. It fell, and fell, and fell, until finally the tree it came from reached to catch it, adding it back to its branches. The two of them look to see where the voice was coming from, and finally, it shows itself.
A fairy - but not fairy-sized, strangely enough, in fact it seems a little bigger than the two of them - flutters it's glowing, golden wings up to them frantically. It rips the apple from Endless' hand and tosses that back to the tree as well. The fairy is exhausted, and rests on Endless' mushroom, panting for breath. He wears large goggles over his eyes, and a pilot's cap. His clothes are form-fitting and show he's in shape, his flying speed could have communicated the same thing. "D-don't you silly mortals know anything?! Jeez louise!" Exhausted, he falls back on the mushroom next to Endless.

Just when Endless thinks he's starting to grow used to this place and suspend his disbelief, it always has to throw another curve ball. This time, in the form of a Fairy. Except Endless is quite sure he's like no fairy Endless has ever heard of. Now to be fair, he can't say he's ever actually met one. But he's heard that fairies were supposed to be small creatures, usually no more than six inches tall, and often dressed in clothes made from leaves or flowers.
This man is taller than Endless, and wears form-fitting clothes that would appear almost modern if not for the same general quality about them that the rest of this place has; one that makes them seem out of place with the world Endless knows. The only thing that seems to indicate he is a fairy at all are the telltale fluttering golden wings that seem to leave a trail of dust behind them as he goes. Endless hadn't been just about to eat his own apple, not the way Tehodis had, and he almost doesn't even notice when it's ripped from his hands and dropped back to the tree that it was taken from. He almost doesn't notice because (though he'd never admit it under pain of death), he is a little too stunned by the sight of this fairy(?) who had come from nowhere, speaking actual words instead of the vague sounds and giggles of everything else, and dressed in his tight clothing that gives Endless a very... flattering view of the fit body they cling to.
He's almost too flustered to speak when the exhausted-seeming fellow heaves a sigh and collapses onto the mushroom Endless is currently sitting on, uncomfortably (or perhaps too comfortably) close while he catches his breath. Endless forces himself to look away, reminding himself that even if he and Tehodis are in a magical world that makes no sense, he and Tehodis will at least be returning to their own world eventually, he assumes. And when they do, he'd rather not have her thinking anything strange of him for the inordinate amount of attention he's paying to the (handsome (shut up)) fairy beside him.
Instead of staring, he finally manages to compel himself to speak, filling the silence that was only occupied by the fairy's heavy breathing. Tehodis is sitting across from them, blinking in surprise, clearly still trying to process the fact that she's just lost a golden apple out of the blue, so Endless decides he has to be the one to ask the question.
"Um... I'm sorry, if we offended you?" he tries, weakly, not sure where to even begin. "Did we do something wrong? And also, uh... who might you be?"
His words bring the fairy back to life, and he sits up with a seeming renewed sense of vigor. Or perhaps just exasperation, seeing as how he rolls his eyes and sighs. "I'm guessing you guys are first-timers?"
Endless glances at Tehodis, who simply gives him a nod. "Yeah... She had heard of this place before, and I never really had any idea it existed, and we suddenly just... wound up here, somehow. I'm still trying to make heads or tails of it all..."
The fairy looks at him with perhaps a sense of sympathy, his expression becoming a bit less reprimanding. "Just wandered in, huh? Most mortals don't really know what they're in for with the Feywild. That's why it's my job to keep an eye out for 'em. Name's Rill!" he offers by way of introduction, smiling as he holds a hand out for Endless, while crossing his other hand over the first to aim it in Tehodis's direction. The two manage a small laugh at the cross-armed handshake he gives them both, and he lightens up a bit now that it appears that the apparent danger of their imminent food consumption has passed. "See, the thing about Feywild food: you mortals shouldn't be eating it. Mortals who eat food in the Feywild become trapped here, and can't get back home, you see?"
Endless's eyes widen, thinking about how close Tehodis had just come to being trapped.
"Ah, well, I guess not TRAPPED, trapped,"Rill goes on, as though second-guessing himself. He tosses them both a light smirk. "King Haelrin can do something about it when it happens, but he's just had it up to here," Rill says, raising his hand up above his head, "with mortals gettin' stuck here and then coming to him whining about it."
Rill goes on to explain more things from there - really, his explanations rather enthrall Endless and Tehodis. He tells them about how every major area of the Feywild has a scout Fairy like himself that keeps a lookout for mortals like them. He also explains that in the Feywild, Fairies aren't small creatures like they are in Fortuna, answering Endless and Tehodis's questions about his size. He tells them about how the Feywild is a place where magic calls home, where it originally seeped out into the world, and Tehodis is especially enthralled to hear that the magic mist from which the deity Miynie is said to be born is believed by most in the Feywild to have originally leaked into Fortuna from here. Endless still isn't sure what to believe, having not come from a religious background, but sitting in the midst of a dimension he cannot understand makes him want to believe Rill's words regardless.
Of course, it may or may not be helped by the fact that at some point during his stories, Rill takes off his goggles and cap, shaking out a head of bright red hair that sticks up in tufts in places and exposing a matching pair of cherry-red eyes. When he fixes Endless with a bright, almost devilish grin, Endless curses every last hormone puberty brought to his sixteen-year-old self because he feels a fluttering in his belly that he is absolutely mortified to dwell on.
And then Rill finally rounds off his explanation by telling them that it was actually a bit dangerous for them to have come wandering into the Feywild randomly.
"Storms of negative magic pass through here pretty regularly. Sometimes caused by mortals in your world, sometimes just because it builds up, and when it does, well, let's just say these friendly mushrooms you're sittin' on wouldn't be nearly as friendly, and those lava rivers might not feel like stayin' put. There's good and bad in all things, y'know?"he explains. "You never know what you two could have come wandering into. In fact, one of those storms is due to come through here soon enough at this rate - ya ask me, I say you should come take refuge in the village."
And he emphasizes this with a jerk of his thumb back towards the strange-looking village Endless ad Tehodis had been looking at when they first arrived.

Tehodis sat and listened, curious - but not really interested. Particularly not in the way Endless was. She didn't really understand most of what the big-fairy was explaining, other than the 'gist' he was getting across. Negative magic? She'd never heard of it. Though, she had never heard much about magic... She was a Kina, yes, but she had no memory of it. And no magic seemed to be within her power. She supposed she must be a mutant, and the way the fairy's magical terminology floated over her head only reinforced the thought. At mention of a village, however, Tehodis was interested:
"The village is so large! Does King Haelrin reside there, as well?" She pointed towards the colourful city they had been going towards, and Rill shook his head, laughing jovially at her mistake. "No, Haelrin lives in the royal city. Along with the royal fairies. Well, and their servants, I guess. And the mortals Haelrin finds particularly entertaining... You might want to avoid it just for that, even if it is a sight to see. If he finds you charming, he'll want to keep you as pets! Which... Well, seems like more fun than it is! Especially when you take the time difference into account..."
It was Endless who perked up more than Tehodis at this notion. She was in no rush to return home. She had no drive to return home. "Time difference?"
Rill looked shocked once more, but the look quickly fell to laughter, like it always seemed to. "Not only are you first-timers, but you don't even know the fairy-tales?! Hoo... Well, time works pretty differently here. I've never experienced it myself, since I've never had a chance to go to your world, but from what I've been told... A day here, is about a week in your world. So if you're here for a year... Well, that'd be... what?"
"Seven years?" Tehodis offered an answer quietly, somehow more familiar with math than magic. The voice in her head that gave her the answer wasn't her's, however. It was the toothy man.
"Sounds about right! So the people King Haelrin keeps as pets, well, they'll be contracted for several years. They return home and... Poof! They don't have a life there anymore. So it's uh... Probably best that you folks come with me! I only have one bed in my flower, but sharing is caring, right?"
Tehodis wasn't paying attention anymore. She was looking at the Royal Kingdom. Curiosity brimming. She wondered...

Endless feels like his heart might stop. There is nothing quite like being invited to an attractive stranger's bed to really make you self-conscious.
Okay, so, maybe Rill hasn't specifically invited them in such a fashion as where Endless's mind has gone, and maybe it's entirely out of good will just to ensure they have shelter from the supposedly incoming storm, and sure, his suggestion implies that Tehodis will be there too. But all Endless's ears hear are that he'll be waiting out a storm while sharing a bed with a handsome man who does't even look to be that much older than Endless himself is - although, who knows if that's true, he isn't sure if fairies age at a decelerated rate, or if maybe they do in the Feywild, or....
The time difference is also mildly concerning. He and Tehodis have already been here for a little more than an hour at this point, so would that mean more than seven of those have passed in Fortuna? It'd already be the middle of the night by now. And if they have to stay any longer to deal with a storm, how much longer would it be before they got home?
But Endless wonders. Would it be so bad? His life back home is... hardly even a life. He has no home, barely any money, and no family or friends. No friends other than maybe Tehodis, who is already here as well. Would it be so bad to stay somewhere as fantastic as this? Then again, he doesn't quite like the idea of being a "pet", either... and he doesn't know what Tehodis would be missing.
"U-uh..." he stammers, thoughts back on the present. "I really appreciate your offer, Rill. If you think it's best for us to wait out a storm, then, uh, we'll... go?" He looks at Tehodis questioningly, wondering if she's okay with the idea as well, but notices her eyes seem distant again. They've fallen into that same far-off look as the earlier occasions, the look that worried him. "Tehodis?" he calls, eyebrows knitted in concern and temporarily forgetting his personal dilemma with Rill's bed. "Are you alright?"
Post by Tehodis Kitai on Nov 20, 2016 21:00:02 GMT -7
Rill shrugged. "Suit yourselves-- But you'll need some kind of shelter. Things can get pretty hairy out here - sometimes even literally!" Rill stood up and stretched, his skin-tight outfit stretching along with him. Tehodis turned back to Endless and smiled a bit at her new friend's distraction. Perhaps he was sharing similar thoughts to her - similar, but not the same. But the concept of staying in the Feywild was attractive.
"I'm fine," She nodded, standing up as well, the flower's filaments offering her a gentle aid, "I'm fine, Endless. Rill, the offer is very kind. We'd love to come with you, if you'll guide us. Especially if there's a storm coming, like you say." Rill nodded with a smile and put his hat and goggles back on. "Sure thing, friends! I'll go slow, since you can't fly, but don't dawdle!"
He hopped off Endless' mushroom and began to flit away. Before Endless could start after him, Tehodis grabbed his wrist. "Hey, I know this is strange, and you might think I'm making this decision too quickly... But, I want to stay here. In the Feywild. At least for a while longer. It feels... Kind of safe. If you need to go, I understand. But... I'm not going to go with you."
"You two coming?" Rill called back, already well into the skies.
